Not sure what your mineral oil is but I use mineral turpentine [paint thinners] and that evaporates very quickly, all it does is make the penetration of the oils into the wood easier

Most of the wood I cut is thick and hard [20mm thick or more] so I use #5 blades where possible as finer blades break, stack cutting I use a finer blade

I would say the scratches on the Ex 21 are caused by the break out from the drilled holes, if this was sanded off it would fix the problem

Get proper tuition, lathes are dangerous if not used properly, ensure you have plenty of ventilation or dust extraction, also have plenty of wood

I have had my EX 21 for 2 years now and there is lots of scratches on the table but I don't worry about them as it does not affect the cutting in any way, I have never cleaned the table [ apart from dusting] or waxed it, it is as I received it

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Boiled Linseed oil mix
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:05:23 am »
I forgot to mention that BLO darkens the wood more than other oils, so if you want the wood to have a more natural look go for the lemon or paraffin, oils but you have to remember that they do not dry to a hard surface and there for are not durable

Raw linseed does not dry as well as boiled linseed, boiled linseed is not boiled it is pasteurized as in milk, it goes through stages of heating but is not boiled, using polyurethane does make danish oil but goes hard in the container if not used quickly, I prefer to put the poly on after the oil has dried

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Good Stool For Scrolling?
« on: March 02, 2012, 01:26:05 am »
It doesn't matter what you sit on as long as you are comfortable, some scrollers stand, me I prefer a high stool to sit on as it is easy for my old aching bones to get into and out of

Thumbs has  an article on slipping blade clamps, I did as suggested and it has cured the bent blade ends as well as the slipping blades, worth a try

If it is your first show make sure you have plenty of variety, after you have done a few you will see what is selling and also make sure you have some thing new all the time, jigsaws and kids stuff always sells well for Christmas so keep that in mind have some but don't over load at this time of year

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Making sure the blade is square
« on: February 24, 2012, 01:24:28 am »
One of the biggest problems while cutting jig saw puzzles is not to push the wood side ways the wood  has to be kept square to to the blade, not as easy as you think, cut slowly and do as advised let the blade do the cutting, I have cut hundreds of puzzles and only have problems when I try to hurry the wood through the blade
