Computer questions / Re: windows 10 keylogger and how to turn it off
« on: September 06, 2015, 01:07:52 pm »
Very scary. And the keylogging has been extended to Windows 7 and 8.  http://www.techtimes.com/articles/80373/20150830/windows-10-privacy-issues-extend-to-windows-8-1-7-how-to-stop-microsoft-from-collecting-more-of-your-data.htm  There go your banking passwords, confidential business documents, etc.

I had trouble finding the KBs mentioned above but this page http://serverfault.com/questions/263847/how-can-i-query-my-system-via-command-line-to-see-if-a-kb-patch-is-installed gives a couple of ways to find the KBs.  Removing them, or not, is up to you.

The Coffee Shop / Amen !
« on: September 05, 2015, 10:32:11 am »
I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles.

Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom. I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I ?like? them.

?And it works just like Facebook! I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist?

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Steve's Programs
« on: August 31, 2015, 02:30:07 pm »
Jeff, from what I can see, the program is loaded into its own folder so it should run from a USB key.  The easy way to try it would be to install in a key, take it to another computer, and see what happens.

Good luck,
Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: DW788 owners or knowledge of please
« on: August 21, 2015, 10:29:53 pm »
Dave, many saws need a tuneup to work at their best.  Not saying that is the cause of your fuzzies, someone else will likely comment on that.  There are a number of posts on this forum discussing tuning the 788 (and the Delta 40-690 which is a clone of the 788 in grey paint).  Another source often mentioned is http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/DewltTuneUp.htm

Good luck,
Jim
PS
From what i have heard, the Type 1 is a much better built saw than the Type 2 - congrats.

The 40-690 is a clone of the DW-788.  The 40-695 is the next generation but some of the fixes that worked on the 690 and 788 might work to reduce the movement of the blade.  It's worth a look.

Rick's site http://www.scrollsaws.com/ has a number of fixes that might be useful to you.  On the left side, click on "Dewalt Tuneup" which will take you to a long page with lots of information.  Down near the bottom are a couple of fixes for the blade movement on the 690 and 788.  They may work for you on the 695.

Good luck and report back to let us know what you tried and if it worked.

The Coffee Shop / LAWYERS DON'T LIE
« on: July 29, 2015, 12:38:17 pm »
A lawyer had a wife and 12 children and needed to move as his rental agreement was coming to an end for the home where he lived but was having difficulty in finding a new home.

When he said he had 12 children, no one would rent a home to him because they knew that the children would destroy the home.

He could not say that he had no children, he could not lie, after all, lawyers cannot and do not lie.

So, he had an idea: he sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 children.

He took the remaining one with him to see homes with the Real Estate Agent.

He liked one of the homes and the agent asked:

"How many children do you have??

He answered: "12 children?.

The agent asked "Where are the others?

The lawyer answered, with a sad look,

"They are in the cemetery with their mother?.

And that's the way he was able to rent a home for his family without lying.

MORAL:

It is not necessary to lie; one only has to choose the right words.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: what should i do ?
« on: July 05, 2015, 11:16:03 pm »
Steve, I don't know anything about your saw but it doesn't seem right that the speed would surge.  It could slow down if you force the cut but if you are cutting smoothly, the speed should stay constant.

Can you call the manufacturer to get some insight into the problem?  If not, I'd return it as it will not likely get better but someone else might have a suggestion.

Best of luck with it.

That's odd, the link opens a new email when I click on it.  Here is the link, steve@stevedgood.com. Try clicking on it, or copy and paste it into your email program.

Good luck,

Steve is very busy and can't always watch the forum.  I'd suggest that you email him directly using the "Email Me" link in the upper left of his blog at http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.ca/

Good luck,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: DEWALT BeARINGS KITS
« on: June 19, 2015, 09:08:41 pm »
Don't know where you are located but Dewalt has parts available on their web site http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail?isId=true&productNumber=DW788&selectedType=21612.  Note there is a type 1 and a type 2 saw.

erplacement http://www.ereplacementparts.com/ also has parts for the 788.

Finally, there are local service centres across the country.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Foot speed controller
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:59:49 pm »
Steve is usually too busy to check the forum but many members fill in for him. Let me try.

To my knowledge, most people only use a foot switch that is either off or on, much like a light switch. Speed control is achieved adjusting a dial on the scroll saw.

I believe that most of the saws require full line voltage (120 or 220/240), depending on where you are) to the control board in the machine.  The control board then modifies the power to suit the circumstance.  Using a foot operated speed controller would usually provide less than line voltage to the input of the saw and could easily burn out the control board and/or motor.

Perhaps someone could chime in with a different view but I'm quite sure nobody on this side of the pond uses a variable speed foot switch. Ray (EIEIO) is one who knows a lot about power, etc. and perhaps he will weigh in.

Hope this help,
Jim

Interesting work, your first posted work was excellent and I'm waiting to see more of this project.

I'm trying to figure out what chemical compound you have cut, it's not quite clear enough.  What is it and why did you select that particular compound?

Thanks,
Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Download issues on the blog.
« on: June 11, 2015, 10:31:58 pm »
Steve, I was able to download 7 patterns, from various sections of the blog, with no problems.  Most patterns were very fast to download while a few took a couple of seconds.  Cant complain about the speed of the site.

Hope this helps.
