Thanks for the information and help.  I guess I will give it a try to see how it works for me.

On a 1/2 thick MDF board, what blade would work best?

Thanks Again ~ Rich

Fine looking project.
I would probably cut a backer out of a darker wood (or wood stained darker than the Baltic birch) and
leave the original cutting as is. You could glue it to a square piece as shown in your original post of
cut the backer round. If cut round, I would probably make the circle about 1/4" to 1.2" larger than the
over-lay.
Of course, this is just MY suggestion. Different people have different tastes.
You did a fine job. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS AND HELP!

Ask Steve a question. / Plywood Tearout?
« on: September 24, 2019, 06:13:37 am »
My 1st scroll saw project was the USCG Veteran logo.
I make it from 12” x 12”, 1/8” thick premium baltic birch plywood.
I used blue painters tape on the front and glued my pattern to the top over the tape.
The top looks good after cutting but I had a lot of tear out on the back.

Being a very new scroll saw user, before I
start on my 2019 Christmas name ornaments here is my question:

Is their anything that I can do to have less tear out on my plywood?

Thanks ~ RBohlman

I finished cutting out my 1st scroll saw project this afternoon.

It is a USCG Veteran logo.  Not sure if it should be stained, painted, or ?.   :-\

Suggestions please!

Some recent photos of my work with my new WEN scroll saw on my model of HMS Winchelsea, a 1764 sailing vessel.

The model is appx. three (3) foot long.

As a Coast Guard Veteran and a past GunnersMate 1st Class, I am looking for scroll saw USCG patterns.

I have Steve Goods CG pattern, so I'm looking for others.

Thanks ~ Rich

I purchased a new WEN scroll saw last week to help me work on a new wooden ship model I am building.

I have a small wood working shop in my garage and have completed a number of projects over the years.
Looking forward to learning more about my new scroll saw!

Thanks for approving me for the Scroll Saw Forum ~ Rich
