Nothing beats a good smooth bourbon (mixer of choice) while you are tending to meat on the smoker!

If that is the end result, you should use her as an inspiration more often.
Good job!

Buffett did do that song, (so did Alan Jackson) but if I am correct, it would only apply to something you were making to sell.  Not for personal use.

Really very nice.  I haven't tried it yet.  My wife has a thing about baskets, so if I cut one it might be the start of something!

That's not true Janet.  I've seen your work.  Why don't you think about it for a while and come up with an appropriate project to do with it?  I could resaw &  square it for you if you want.  No idea what the cost of shiping round trip would be.  Of course you loose some of the wood in the process of resawing and planing, but not a lot.

Teak is used extensively on boats for trim work as it is resistant to water damage as said before.  It is pretty dense and usually finished with oil rather than a film finish.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Pine vs Polar
« on: July 12, 2010, 12:27:15 am »
I use some pine, but I prefer poplar if it is for something I want to last.  Poplar is harder.  It also has less tear-out if you are going to rout the edges or anything like that.  Other than the cost difference, the only disadvantage to poplar for me is that it is difficult to stain evenly.  It is one wood that is better to use a poly with the stain built in rather than try to stain and then finish.

My first pc was a Commodore 64.  That was before you could even buy a tape drive, much less a a hard drive.  You type in the program, and if you turned it off, you had to start over next time.  It was amazing what we could do with those early systems by comparision to the resources we have now.
