I know everyone's comments on using paint but these needed to be painted. This is a collection from a pattern I bought from woodcaft. Elves Painted 3/4 ply & the reindeer are stained 3/4 pine

Intarsia / has anyone done Palm Sunday from Scroller catalog
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:56:34 am »
Has anyone ever done the Palm Sunday pattern out of the Scroller Catalog? if so any advice. I have decided to do it for our church. I'm ordering the pattern next week. It has over 400 pieces. Just trying to decide which size the small which is 48" long or the large that is 80". Both have the same about of pieces.
Thanks for the advice in advance
Brian

Brian,
I don't use sand & seal at all. 3 light coats of the & buff between coats with fine steal wool. Fret work I add 1 more step which is a coat of lemon oil before spraying.

I haven't been on the site in a few weeks due to some issues around the house but I have been able to finish a few Intarsia pieces from one of my pattern books a bought awhile back.

The bad part is that store is within walking distance to my home. I'm in there at least once a week to just window shop but end up spending money on something.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Great place for Hardwood
« on: November 17, 2014, 06:18:53 am »
I found a great place in North Carolina to get hardwood. I have been looking at this place on-line for a few weeks so i decided to give them a try. The place is Steve Wall Lumber in Mayodan, NC. They ship hardwood all over. I took the 1hour drive up there Saturday and it was well worth the drive. For $150 I came back with a full truck load of hardwood; everything from Ash to Walnut and everything in between. When I say a truck load - I could not fit anymore in the bed of the truck. They have a lot of discounted bundles ranging from $5-10 in thins.
I went up to buy a bundle of shorts in walnut and a couple of pieces  of exotic for some intarsia work that I'm doing. I did remember to buy these items which was included in the 150 I spent.
If anyone one in NC is looking for a good  Hardwood supplier - they drive is worth every penny.
I have got enough lumber to last through as least early next year.
Thanks

I have had the 6" porter cable joiner for several years now and I really like it. I buy a lot of my lumber rough & re-saw. both porter cable's 6" joiner & their 12"planer are wonderful. I have really never had any issues with either.
