General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: My EX arrived yesterday.

Astounding, I ordered the saw at the begining of Dec and it turned up the day after Axminster told me it was en-route. We ordered the bed the day before the notification of the saws despatch notice arrived, the Gods are truly with me

Toy Makers / Re: need a idea for a game

Try this. Cut the board into a 12 pce. jigsaw and number them 1 to 12 instead of  adding a picture. You will also need 2 dice. Throw the dice and the first no to come out is the starting point. Just for fun say no 8. The next thrower to put down a bit of the puzzle must have a number that connects to the 8, say 7 or 9. To speed things up a bit, if you throw a 5 & 3, you have a choice of putting down piece no 5 or 3 or 8. The winner is the one who puts down the last bit of the puzzle.
I just made that up, so no idea how long it will take or how boring it will get, or what to call it!! Make up your own rules as you go along. There is not much you can do with a 4? sq pce of wood and I am sure Dad can make the dice for you as well. Hope this helps or gives you an idea. Iggy

General Scroll Saw Talk / My EX arrived yesterday.
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:55:32 pm »
My new EX arrived yesterday, just 2 hrs. Before the new bed so the flack from her in draws did not last too long. Because of the bed, I didn?t get to open the box until this morning, only one word to describe it AWSOME. After examining it for ? an hour, decided to take off the stupid little dust shoot, hold-down and the underside blade protector. I consider these saws pretty safe compared to my other stuff like the floor saw, band saw, Woodrat and router table etc. I then made a base from some ?? faced ply and made a contraption to hold my 4? magnifier from above the saw and connected to the upper arm via the hole left by the removal of the hold-down. It consists of a 3/8? rod ground down at one end to fit the hold-down hole, it is just long enough to hold the magnifier about ?? above the table. I then fitted a 1?sq piece of oak at right angles to the top about 5? long to allow the magnifier to hang between me and the business end of the saw. I figured that fitting it to the top arm means that it will move out of the way when I move the arm and come back again ready for use when I resume cutting. All that remains now is to tidy up, edge band the base and a lick of paint I am away. Thank you all for your guidance in my previous post, i decided to start a new topic here as the last one is getting off track now. Iggy.                 <PS> sorry no picks, yet to figure that one out.    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Mounting a light
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:07:31 am »
My saw has a light attached, it is u/s as it runs on those little 3amp screw in bulbs like the wardrobe ones, the saw, even when screwed down, shakes the filements to bits, and they only last a week at best. to solve the problem, I bought a magnifyer with an LED circle of lights, a magnet  and optional clamp came as part of the kit, I think it was from Jessam. the magnifyer is mounted on a flexi tube and sags if stood upright so I found a length of rod that fits into my work hold-down slot, mounted an 8" length of 1" sq timber at right angles to it at the right height and the light happily hangs there right where I want it. Since it hangs down rather than across there is no restriction on the size of work you can produce. Hope this helps a little  ;D    Iggy  P.S. Sorry, no picks, I am still struggling with that part of the forum.

Thanks for that Dan. I will make that for our 45th anni. at the end of March. in the mean time, I have a couple of sheets of MDF in the garage to make a coffin for myself just in case it goes the wrong way. All I need now is an inscription!!!!. as an afterthought, I may make it a bit longer so she can plant the EX21 with me.

Thank you both for your comments, my mind is now at rest, I was a little concerned about the build qualiy. I may have to spray it green to match the rest of my stuff, not to sure about the Axminster white but we will see how it goes. You must agree they are are expensive and I am expecting a lot from it.Just one question left, maybe you can help on this one as well, HOW DO I TELL THE BOSS. she will kill me when she finds out and I may not live to enjoy it. LOL iggy

General Scroll Saw Talk / EX 21
« on: January 22, 2012, 05:35:02 am »
Living in the UK, I ordered my new EX 21 from the agent here Axminster. They had a pre Chrissy offer of ?490, so  jumped on it, they are now ?565. Since then I read on This Forum that they are made under lisence in the Far East. The question is. Has anyone got one of them and are they up to standard? After all, you dont expect to buy a RR and have it arrive with Made in China on the label. The machine is due for delivery in a couple of weeks and I was wondering weather or not to Cancell and order direct from Canada. Iggy.

How about a laser head instead of blade.
