General Scroll Saw Talk / Teak wood
« on: January 20, 2012, 02:21:05 pm »
I have friend who just completed a new deck made out of Teak.  He has some pieces off the ends and asked to make him a Celtic Cross out of the pieces.  I found a piece big enough but I have never worked width Teak.  Can you scrollsaw Teak?  It is very strong but very birttle.  I know you have to treat any drill holes like going thru metal but what about the blades?  Any help will be appreciated.

Ain't that the truth.  I think they do leave some features out some that they can come out next month with a new and improved one.

thanks for all of the information.  My wife has a HP netbook and had to replace the battery in lest than a year.  She also has a Dell laptop,  and we had to have the battery replaced on it.  I like the seperate number pad on the Toshiba and I have a friend who has had two of them and really likes them and has had no trouble with she even increased the memory on the first one.  I will keep looking and trying.  I do appreciated the advice and the info.

GB I live in Mcdonough, Ga. about 30 miles south of Atlanta.  There are a few mom and pop repair shops around but they are not dealers.  All the dealers are big box stores, Best Buy, Staples and Sam's Club, places like that.  I did go on line to Toshiba.com and they have a interacting sales person on line to talk to.  I am still looking for a good brand with support.  Thanks for the help.

I am not a Mac user.  I really never got expossed to them.  I don't I have ever heard of a Micro Center in the area.  I do appreciated the advice.  I am not an on-line gamer either.  I play an occasional gameof solitare, or Majong but that is about the exetent of it.  I want to learn pattern design and I want to store the patterns that interest me.

Computer questions / Shopping for a new computer

I have finally decided I need to upgrade my computer in my work shop, from a desktop to laptop.  The problem is I want to start doing some pattern designing and storing.  My wife has a Dell laptop but I don't like it and it is several years old.  I have looked at Toshiba at Best Buy, but I really can't make heads or tails of them.  I know I want at least 3 gigs of hard drive and memory of 320 to 500 gigs.  The processors are where I get in trouble, what makes the best speed for what I described.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

General Scroll Saw Talk / toaster oven
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:15:22 pm »
As some of you will remember I was asking about the clay inlay and a toaster oven.  Well I broke down and purchased one, a cheapie from Walmart.  Last night I finally put it to the task, and it worked great.  Now I won't have to worry about wife's pride and joy.  Just thkought I would pass it on.  Jeff44

Torsten,
Thank you so much for the pattern.  It will look great.  I have some 3/4 red oak that should be great and some 1/8 walnut for the emblem.  I will try to post a picture when I finish.

Pattern Requests. / beckoning cat or oriental lucky cat
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:47:52 pm »
I am looking for a pattern for a beckoning cat or a oriental lucky cat.  I have a Vietnamese friend who would like a good year model for this year.  In vietnam they use the cat instead of the rabbit for this chinese year.  I have looked but all i found were dolls or statues.  I thank you for the help on the clay inlay, I bought an inexpensive toaster oven but have not got around to doing any yet.  Thanks for your help.

Ask Steve a question. / clay inserts
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:57:21 pm »
Steve,
I love the key chain with the color clay inserts.  I was wondering if the same results could be made with a toaster oven instead of a regular oven.  The wife doesn't like me messing around with her stove.
Thanks,

Hi, I am jeff44. I have recently retired and haave started to enjoy my favorite hobby, scrollsawing.  I found this web site by accident and have really enjoyed it ever sense.  My typing skills are not the best, so bear with me.  I am using a friends Dewalt 788 scroll saw, I have a central machinery 16 in that is mine.  It is like using a WWII jeep comparied to the dewalt.  One day I will get a new one but for now I can use my friend's.
