Hi Janet.  Good to hear from you!  What are you having trouble gluing?

Really nice work!  I have a friend who is into dragons, even has several dragon tatoos.  He would love those.  I agree with the reddish stain.  Those would look great cut out of bloodwood to.

I haven't started the cutting yet.  I've been reviewing different patterns and considering creating others.  I have some cocobolo in thin planks that should make beautiful ornaments, so I'll probably use that.  Mine is leaving the country as well.

Good work GB!  That should become a family heirloom.

The one in the pic has a 4" barrel, so a 6 might just fit.  Of course it would be easy to adjust the size to accommodate whatever you need.  I didn't start with a pattern, I just drew what I wanted on the wood.  That way I couldn't fail to cut according to the plans  ::)

I did a couple of halloween ornaments last year, but I haven't cut any for Christmas.  I have a nice piece of cocobolo waiting for someone!

Another suggestion is not to try to take off the whole edge at one shot.  You significantly reduce the chances of tearout if you make successive passes removing a small amount of wood at each pass until you get to the final pass.  Also be sure you understand the correct direction to feed the wood into the blade.  You may well be aware of these suggestions, but you did say you are new to routers and there are a few tricks in the bag.

Reminds me of my favorite Halloween joke:  Why don't witches wear underwear?  Because it gives them a better grip on the broom.

I envy your talent at creating patterns Grandpa!  I can usually only cut what someone else has drawn.

Thanks for all the nice words!  I was a little hesitant to post it here due to the fact that it didn't have a lot of scroll work, but I am pleased to hear that so many like it.

Got this idea from a clock in a gift catalog and decided to use the concept to create my own out of 3 inch think maple.  Made it sort of like a bandsaw box.  The only scroll work is the accents on the front, but I really like it so I thought I would post it here.
