General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: dewalt switch
« on: August 15, 2010, 09:45:51 pm »
"Different strokes for different folks."
Dav, the DeWalt switch isn't a bad switch, well not any worse than ANY switch. It is just that it will get saw dust in it and cause the contacts not to contact.
The foot (dead man) switch just make things alot handier and easier to use. By repacing the orginal switch with a "wall" style hasn't helped you at all. It has just temporaly moved the problem to another place. You still have to take one hand off your work and fumble around to turn the saw off.
If you sit on a tall stool, just mount the foot switch to a "block of wood", "a box" (of the correct height) or a "platform".
It will take you about 15 minutes of getting used to it, and then you will be a very "happy camper" (well scroll saw user) in this case.
In fact, I have a "kill" switch on my table saw that I can bump with my knee to shut the power off with out moving a hand or loosing controll of the material I am cutting.
Cost is a problem, (I payed $40.00 for my foot switch) but, as others have said, you can get one for as little as $10.00. It will be a very good investment to your hobby.

Stack cutting on a bevel is exactly how I put this purpleheart wildcat into the walnut top of this box.

It takes practice and experimiting at first but you can do it too.

Our kids are always welcome to come to our house but, they can't bring any furniture, keepsakes or clothes for more than 3 days.
We love them dearly, that is why we kicked them out of the house at the age of 18.

I dont have a sterio but, my computer is a laptop Toughbook by Panasonic and I have no problems.
I have had this machine since '98 and used it on my tool truck for 8 years or so and now I have had it in the shop ever since.
I can truly say it is a VERY TOUGH BOOK!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, this is the worst it has ever been!
I'm not complaining now, as you said "better than nothing at all" but, it really is alot slower than I have ever had to contend with before.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Blade Holders with a twist
« on: August 09, 2010, 09:45:17 am »
I bought some plastic tubes from "Sloans Wood Shop" that have plug style caps. I take the label from the plastic sack and roll it so that you can see the size (and manfacturer and part number) from the out side and lay them in a drawer of my small tool box. Being capped, it keeps the sawdust out and yet easy to grab a blade.
When I want to use a certain size blade, I lay the whole tube on the saw table within easy reach.

I would grab that in a heartbeat!!! But, I'm afraid that shipping would ruin the bargin.
In your shoes, I would go buy that so fast that it would make your head swim and then, put my Dremel up for sale for $100.00 and start making saw dust!

My work shop conditions are......
I live in it!
I'm retired and the wife won't let me smoke in the house so, I moved.
I sleep, eat and use the restroom in the house but other than that, I'M IN THE SHOP!
I have my 'puter, TV, heat and air, beer box, desk, and all of my tools within six steps of me at all times.
The shop is 14' x 20' with 9' celings. I have 3 windows, two outside walk doors and an overhead garage door. I open up around 7:00 AM and I work when I want to and, visit with friends when they drop by around "Beer-thirty".
I usually call it a day around 9:30 and go in to watch "Everybody Loves Ramond" and the 10:00 news and try to stay awake for "Jay Leno" until 11:30 or so.
Yes, I AM AS HAPPY AS A CLAM!  ;D
