General Scroll Saw Talk / Blades cutting like cutting butter.... :+}
« on: November 27, 2011, 09:05:02 am »
Bet all have thought about when a blade has gotten to dull....
Heres my two cents....  A NEW blade will cut like if you imagined cutting thru butter....  After time you Will notice that this easy cutting has gone away.
Or when you get to the point where your having to push the wood into the blade harder than when you started.  I am sure I have been guilty of the as some projects I just wanted to get finished and kept on cutting even tho I knew it was time to change to a new blade.  Anyway....  Danny  :+}

Here's my up-date on my previous posts concerning blades breaking....
Talked with a gal named Jean who is the Customer Relation person for
A.M.I.  After experimenting with her suggestions heres what I determined.

I was tightening the lil knob way, way to tight which put a lot of presure on the blade.  Thats the exact place all my blades were breaking at.

The piece that locks the blades to was faulty.  It is 12 years old and has had lots n lots of uses  and tightenings.  I ordered a NEW one and I am HAPPY to tell yas that after approx. a week of daily cutting I have NOT had a blade break.

So to me besides replacing a worn out part my biggest trouble was myself.

And I still feel that Flying Dutchman blades are far the best out there.

Well thats about it, so will be looking forward to responses to this.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Question....Laser Cutting.... ????
« on: November 26, 2011, 07:34:14 pm »
This is a late post, but at my Craft Show a few weeks ago I had TWO men ask me if my crafts were cut using a laser....Different times....  I have NOT ever thought about this.  (?)  Both were really nice.  After I told them NO I cut them with a Scroll saw they both responded with Nice Compliments and One of them told me I should invest in this way of cutting wood.

My Question is this....  Is THIS "LASER" thing going to be the downfall of our Scrolling in a matter of time?

Hey any and ALL responses will be really Good...  Looking forward to this....

Have a potential customer requesting me cut a 8x10 portrait of a Horse.

She purchased the Horse design that Steve did and was in love with it, but she has two grand daughters (horse lovers) and wanted to give them each a picture.

The portrait below is Steves....Could our designers make me a pattern simular to this?  Thanks in Advance....  Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Good Show....
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:13:13 am »
Had a Craft Show in Fayetteville, Tenn. this past week-end.  Saturday was in my feelings good.  Sold $403.00 worth of my crafts.  Took orders from three customers.  Sunday as I feel usual was low attendance, but still managed to sell another $97.00 worth.  Yea!  I am very happy as last year on both days I only sold 101.00.  Terrible!  Wanted to take pictures, but this was against their policy....SO....  Had a corner area and had two five foot tables and one six foot.  I felt my display was Beautiful and as usual had many, many customers compliment me and also my craftsmanship. Yea!  Had nine different designs for ornaments.  Sold out of all the ones that had Merry Christmas 2011 the first day.  Remember me showing Sheila Landry's real cute ornaments?  Eleven different parts.  Well only two were bought.  And had 18 of the Gift Certificate lil holders.  NONE WERE BOUGHT.  Awful.  Anyway I am Thankful that I sold what I did.  Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: baltic birch plywood dulling the blades
« on: November 10, 2011, 04:38:06 pm »
Well I just gots to put in my two cents worth....  I have been using the
FD-UR 1-3-5 and 7 and I use on a Hegner.  The FD blades were breaking at the top pretty often.  Made me feel the FD blades were faulty, so ordered a batch of Olsen blades.  Well they also were breaking, but not as often.
Basically after talking to the Hegner service rep. I have determined my problem was simply OPERATOR TROUBLE!.  Thats right ME.  LOL  After applying what they said I have been using the FD blades and have cut a simple ornament stacked 3 high out of BB 1/8".  Have successfully completed 3 different ornaments this way and Hey Guess what DIDN'T HAVE A BREAK.

My feelings are YES both Olsen and FD blades do a good job, but for my money I will ALWAYS USE THE Flying Dutchman brand.  UR only.

Thanks for reading....  Danny  :+}

Just a Follow-Up bout assembling these ornaments.  I have been using TITEBOND FAST DRYING GLUE.  Its almost like a super glue.  Works Great.
                                   At least they give you 6 seconds.  LOL  Danny  :+}

Dan....and....Leldon....  Dan I have give lots of thought to the finishing part and except for dipping them in your special mixture that's it, but I can see them being different colors also.  Thought about painting each piece before assembling, but that's just to much time consuming and I don't paint good.
Your ideas are excepted or anyone eles.

Leldon....Roll Tide Roll, but Cry.cry about giving LSU the game.  LOL

Thank you all for you kind posts....  Danny  :+}
