and they say customer service is dead!  Not around here, it isn't.  Both parties deserve commendation, and GB, thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.  I'll take one positive over a dozen negative stories every day of the week.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: New toys for the workshop

When I first started doing woodworking, we only used routers to put an edge on a board, or trim laminate.  Now we have so many uses for routers and they are so versatile, they are one of the workhorses of a woodshop.  If you haven't already done so, look into router template work.  It really works well and saves time and mistakes.

Too bad you don't live closer Dawie!  We could get together and use your new toys on my new woodstack and have some fun.

The wood is nice & dry and was stored in a rack, so it was properly cared for.  Let's just say I didn't even pay $1 per board foot!

The Coffee Shop / Gloat
« on: January 16, 2011, 11:38:27 pm »
Not really too scroll saw oriented (although some of it will go that way), but I have to gloat.  I am so so happy!  I have been looking for a new planer and wanted something bigger and more industrial than a portable unit.  I found a Powermatic 15" with a helical cutterhead on craigslist in almost new shape and picked it up for $600.  When I got there I was also able to make an unbelievable deal on an incredible amount of hardwood.  Mostly rough cut 4/ cherry, oak, curly & birdseye maple, and poplar.  there was a little 8/4 also.  It was so cheap I am embarrassed to reveal how much.  Suffice to say I won't be needing any wood for a long time.  I don't intend this as bragging, just great luck and excitement!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Router speed control on a scroll saw ?
« on: January 14, 2011, 08:28:48 am »
I tried a speed control box on an old drill press once.  It did control the speed, but when you reduced the speed you also reduced the power of the motor.  In order to have enough power to drill, you had to increase the speed to a point to high for the bit.

Call me stuck in a rut, but I will not be dragged into a web based email system.  I have set them up for several people and have provided service assistance for several using gmail, yahoo, and others, but I always prefer a good old-fashioned email system with a true email program to any web-based email.  I guess it comes from so many years of using the internet before there was a www.

Computer questions / Re: what kind of printer do you use
« on: January 08, 2011, 09:28:27 am »
I just replaced my printer recently.  Ink is expensive on all printers, but generally I find it is better to use a printer with separate cartridges for each color rather than a single cartridge for all three colors.  My latest printer actually uses 5 cartridges but I can replace them individually as they run out.  Another consideration is that when using an inkjet, you do not save money by buying extended quantity cartridges unless you use it often enough to exhaust the ink in a reasonable time period.  The ink will dry out if unused, so you may be better off buying smaller cartridges more frequently.  Printing photos is satisfying, but it is usually cheaper to email the pics to a photo service and have them printed there.  To my knowledge, HP is the only ink manufacturer that actually gives an estimated number of pages printed from each cartridge.  That can help you decide what size cartridge to purchase also.

Kepy,  Two things you might try.  first I would download the latest version of the Adobe Reader and install it, next I would suggest unplugging and removing your printer via the control panel, reboot, and reinstall the printer.  I'd bet one of those two would fix it.
