Pattern Requests. / Pattern books
« on: September 08, 2010, 11:21:15 am »
Yesterday, in the mail, I received two books of patterns that can be ordered. Well, they are really just small catalogs, one is called the "Windfield Collection" and the other is "Scroller".
I DID NOT order these catalogs, Scroller has a cover price of $3.95 and Windfield Collections is $3.00.
It seems to me the prices are a bit high but, there are some very good patterns in them.
Did anyone else on this fourm receive these?
I am just wondering if belonging to this website had something to do with my getting these catalogs or if maybe ordering some of my blades and wood from outher places had something to do with it.
I do not order things on line, I usually call the places that I order from but, how did they get my name and address?
Just courious....

If my kids had done, as teenagers, what I did, I would probably have killed them!
On the otherhand, they probbaly did as much or more, I just didn't know about it!

One of the top songs was Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley.

I was just a lad of 13 when "Purple People Eater" was on the "Hit Parade".
I can still rember most of the words.
My grand daughter was riding in the car with us a few weeks ago when that song came on the radio and I sang along with it! I thought she would croak from laughing so much!

I agree with GB for the most part but, I have found the mixture of sawdust and clear shellac insted of glue gets a better color match. It also will accept some stain and almost any finish somewhat better.
I have used some stuff called "Stain Putty" also.It is a powder that can be mixed with stain, water or varnish. I got it a my local ACE hardware store.

You have made TWO mistakes!!! The first was installing the blade up-side-down and the second was telling ALL of us about it!!!
You may never live this one down!  :D :D :D :D :D :D

Congrats on your first project!  I love cutting spiral bowls and have recently started making solid bowls.  I'm lucky because my table does not tilt, my head does.  It makes it a lot easier.

Have your spine checked out for goodness sakes!!!!  :o You must see the whole world on a 22 degree angle!!!  :o  Which way does your head tilt?  :-\
Right or Left?  ??? I can tilt my head either way and up and down too!!  8)

OH!! You mean the head on your SAW!!!! :o Well, that is different.
NEVER MIND.

;) ;D The devil made me say that.  ;D  ;)

Way to keep a sharp eye out when working with wood!  :)
And even more important, keep thinking and trying different things as you go.
I like the plaque and I really like how you learned to make the wood work for you and the pattern adjustment also.
Keep up the good work.

I was going to try that and was advised not to. You spray (or apply) glue to the surface and then sprinkle the flocking on it and HOPE FOR THE BEST (good coverage) because you CAN NOT re-do-it ! :o
I was trying to line a small box with felt, velvet, or satin for a "home comunion" box for the church.
I ended up at Hobby Lobby and found some self adhearing felt that is sold in sheets almost like paper. It comes in ALOT of different colors too! I was able to cut pieces to shape with sissors and trial fit before removing the backing and applying to the surface. WARNING be careful because once applyed, it
WONT come off with out ALOT of work!!! DAMHIKT  ;D
Actually it is not as hard as I might make it sound but, it does work and is easier and less messy than the spray flocking. It also holds up well with use, the comunion box is a year old or more and is used often and still looks nice.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Mercedes Star

Just go buy a Mercedes, they come with a star attached then you can copy it.

By the way, the star uses  30 / 60 / 90 degree angles. Do you happen to have an old drafting triangle of that ilk laying around?

I have often worried that my tension lever goes to 4 or 5 before it feels right. I too thought maybe it need adjustment so that the blade would get thight around 3 or so. Guess it is just the way it is suppose to be.
And I learned to push down on the head as I tighten the upper clamp. (I'm a bottom feeder) a long time ago!
Glad we all have sorted out a few things and know that all is well.

BJ,
I live in Hutchinson, Ks. What part do you live and/or work in?
Shissta and I are the only ones from Kansas as far as I know.
Welcome to the fourm and hope that if you don't learn something from it, at least teach us some things we might not know about.  ;D

That was the way ALL scrolling and fret work was done before electricity was invented.
Have you ever seen some really old work done on a piece of furniture?
I watched a demo on TV one time of a guy learning in France to do that type of work the old way. Even intarsha was done like that.
