General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Let's discuss the mugs, shall we?
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:47:53 pm »
As a follow-up to GBs post.
Same thing happened to my son TWICE!
While in college he wanted to join a popular band. He wanted to play lead guitar but, they allready had a 'lead man' and needed a 'bass player', I said, "Go ahead and take the bass job and be the best bass player you can be." He did and was soon asked to fill in for several other bands when he could, and got a great following of fans.
One summer he got a job to be 'music director' at a church camp. After arriving they desided they needed a maintance man worse than a music  director so he accepted the job. He ended up enjoying the experiance and learned alot about maintance and repair of all sorts of things and it helped him get a job with a reality company in the college town that he lived in! Not only that but, he is married with two children now,and a house that he is able to do his own fix-up/maintance on and it saves him ALOT of money.
And he is just a computor geek/salesman now and was hired to be the marketing man eight years ago!!
Never give up or turn down a new opertunity.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Sanding Mop....SPEED?
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:50:56 am »
I  have mine mounted on an old electric motor.  I have no idea how fast it is turning.  How can I figure out the speed?

Look on the motor for a metal tag riveted or glued to it. It usually tells the horse power (1/3 for example) and the RPM at a given amperage.

The "Weather Man" in Kansas said the fall began at 10:08 PM on the 22nd. That was last night while our News brodcast was on.
As Bret in "Gone With the Wind" said "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

Pattern Requests. / Re: Chef

Steve has one in his 'Free Pattern' line up. It is on a 'paper plate holder'. Maybe you could use just the chef cut out and put it on something else to suit your needs.
I made several of the plate holders and they went over fairly well with friends and relatives.

This is a Christmas gift for my son who plays in a band and at Church. (Just don't tell him! ;)

It is cherry and walnut finished with wipe-on pollyurethane.
Hope you enjoy it.

It is 18" tall and 6" wide. it has a piece at the top for hanging on the wall. I used wire for the frets and strings. Getting the clock works and strings on at the sme time was a bit fiddly but, it works!  ;D

I have never seen one, not to mention, ever used one but, I think the motor (if it runs) would be worth $25.00 at least.

« on: September 12, 2010, 06:53:53 pm »
That is a good one!!  ;D You are right, I didn't see that one comming!  8)

There is (or was) some truth to that! I rember my dad paying for gas at a station with chips he had from a casino in Las Vegas years ago. Also it used to be (but no longer is) any casino would accept chips from any other casino.
Back in the day (as they say) in Las Vegas, Chips were as good as gold  (or even money) almost any place in the city.
They also had slot machines between the pumps at the gas stations. Last time I was there, there were slots in the air terminal too!

Yep!   ;D I'm gona' do it I think.  ;)
I've done one before, about a year or two ago but, I WILL play by the rules and make another this week.  :)
I love contests just to see what other people do and I'm willing to be put to shame just to see the others work.  :o

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: lighting
« on: September 10, 2010, 07:08:02 pm »
I have floursent lighting in the shop but, I also have a light in a flexable neck that is designed for the DeWalt scroll saw too. I'm sure you have seen them on pictures of the DeWalt saw before. Watch some of Steves vidios of his demonstrations.
Depending on what saw you have the mfg. may offer something simular for your saw or you could jury-rig something that will work.
I use to have a reading light on a long arm with an elbow but it always seemed to get too hot, sag down at the wrong time or just be in the way, so I got rid of it.
