I use Tightbond I, II, or III on all of my items including furniture and I have NEVER had a failure on anything!
I really believe that you stained or finished the glue area before gluing. If you will just put some painters tape over the intended glue area before staining or finishing and then remove the tape just before gluing you will NOT have anymore problems.

I haven't done it but, I don't think that I would just cut spaces in a cane and leave them open because of strength. BUT....I WOULD cut some designs and do an inlay with a contrasting color of another wood to fill the openings in the cane.
I scrolled some names in small wooden hammer handles from a pattern that Steve has in his blog. The hammers were gifts for friends and intended for display purposes only due to strength.
You might cut the letters of your name or initals in the shank of the cane and fill with a different wood or that inlace material that everyone is using.

JUMP ON IT GB!!!
You can never have too many tools, especially quality items like that! If you end up with too many scroll saws, you can always sell one or two and make a buck in the process!!!!

Cool, more Wood Wright Shop Videos, Roy is AMAZING!  I use to watch his show when I was a kid.  It amazes me he still has all his digits LOL.  Some of those tools he uses can split a hair.

Steven

I did in fact, see one show where he cut his finger with a chisel! He just said "Ouch, dont do that." and went on with the show. It obviously wasn't that bad of a cut.  :D :D :D

Naaa, that is a book shelf with all his reading material on it.

Or, it is a bar for the tail gate partys at the foot ball game.

Or, a shelf for his scrollsawing items.

I live near Medford, OR, about 30 miles north of the California border.

Bill

I lived in Klamath Falls for 4 years. I was stationed at Kingsley Field in the Air Force and went to Medford several times. But, of course that was in 1963-1967 so things may have changed there since then!  :D :D :D :D :D :D

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Squaring Blade Help
« on: October 01, 2010, 10:26:30 am »
All blades are suppose to flex a little (1/16"- 1/8") and as has been said, the blade you are using is a bit small for the material thickness. But, I think that the real problem is controlling the wood. I think you are pushing the wood too hard either forward or, more than likley, to the side as you are cutting. This could be caused by a dull blade or the 'human tendancy' to get ahead of the blade on making curved lines. It happens to all of us at one time or another.  ;D  It still happens to me if I'm not careful.  ;D

Janet,
Thanks for posting that.
I have seen it before and wanted to comment about it but, forgot where I had seen it and didn't know how to post it anyway. ;D
It was my first thought when I saw Santa on the roof.

Mark,
A more apt one for this post might be, "Underneath the Bleachers" by Semore Butts.

I think it is "Photo Stopped". Some of the wires look to be behind the crane boom and some look to be in front of it.  ;)
Sloppy work!  ::)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Foggy Glasses
« on: September 28, 2010, 12:49:36 pm »
Has anyone tried Rain-X?   Yea, the stuff you put on the windshield of your car to keep the water off and the windshield from fogging up.
I have used it on plexiglass, regular glass and yes even on my eye glasses with great results. I keeps my eye glasses from fogging up when I come inside from an cold winters day anyway.
I buy it at the auto parts store and a bottle lasts a llooonnnggg time. I think that is basicly a liquid wax but, it works well for most of the stuff I have used it on.
Now that I think of it, I think I will try it on my saw table too!!!! It is SLICK!!
