I think that I will copywrite my name. Then if I ever run  to someone with exactly the same name, I can sue their parents!  ;D
Does "Throckmorton S, Gildersleeve" ring a bell to anyone?

I have one other question to ask...
Are the 50 pieces going to be given away or sold? That fact would inter into the problem.
If they are going to be sold, with the procedes going to the charity, I would charge a minimal amount for my materials and time. Lets face it, it takes money to make money. You bought your saw didn't you? You found and bought the materials didn't you? You are spending your time and tallent to cut 50 of something aren't you? Well, I feel that you should be compinsated something for that. I'm not suggesting that you turn it into a "Real money making thing" but, your efforts must be worth something. (some money making charitys pay alot for some things...Girl Scout Cookies come to mind)
Now, if the items are going to be GIVEN away as "proof of particapion" or something, that is something else. You will have to use your own judgement on how much you are willing to donate to the cause.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Question regarding the bulliten
« on: October 09, 2010, 06:13:34 pm »
I may be wrong too but, I think that if you copy a logo and cut it for your self or as a gift there won't be much they can do.
Now...If you make a PATTERN and post it for free or try to sell the PATTERN or the ITEM its self, you are in a whole differnt ball game.
Like any company or sports clubs, that is MONEY to them.
You may look at it as advertizing for the College Team but, someone (or the college) owns the rights to that logo and they do make a certain amount off the procedes from selling items with their logo on it.
I have cut wall hangings of the logo of my son's college and either kept them for myself or given them to my son. No problem but, if I cut the same thing and try to sell it at a craft show, I WILL HAVE BIG TROUBLE !
The wild cat of the  Kansas State University is OWNED by the current football coach and he don't take kindly to anyone making money off HIS property!
I'm sure it is the same with scrolling patterns designed by our favorite pattern makers but, in this case, even GIVING THEIR pattern away cuts into their pocket and doesn't sit too well with them either.
I'm sure you all understand what I am trying to say.

I wasn't born until 1943 and don't rember much before '48 or '49 but, I have seen alot of old family photos from this era. The only ones that I have ever seen were black and white not color. In fact, if you had ask me before, I would have said that color photos didn't come until around 1950 or so.
Does anyone else know what a "Kodak Brownie" is?  ;D

I have seen that picture before and It always make me laugh.
I have often wondered if the guy made it to where he was going.
If that load slips off, he will have to build his project where ever he is.  :D :D :D :D :D :D

I thought it might be plywood.
Here is one I made quite some time ago.

In fact, I have made several things including a pitcher and vase and most recently a mug out of ply but yours looks ALOT better.
I'll try it your way the next time.

Very nice job. I really like your blank.
That is either a glue-up from hell or, plywood. I can't imagine gluing up all thise strips but, I'm sure that it can be done.
Anyway that is some fine cutting and a beautiful bowl. You are really thinking outside the lines!!

I was asked how to fill the salt & pepper shakers......

Well, DOH!!!! I use the little holes in the top of course!

Nah, I'm just kidding...

I drill a recess in the bottom with a forstner bit, then a 5/16" hole in the center of that, and cut off the bottom to drill the deeper inside hole with a forstner bit and re-glue the bottom to the block.  The 5/16 hole is for a cork to keep the salt inside. It is not the best way of doing it but, it works.
Anyway, these things are more for display than use altho they can be used.
There are grinder parts available to make S & P grinders available but, at the time, I didn't know where to get them.

Hope that helps.

I haven't posted any work here in quite awhile so I thought I would show some now.
I entered a contest on another site for making "Salt & Pepper Shakers". Not having a lathe, of course I had to make mine using my scroll saw.
The are fairly simple and not at all hard to make but, I enjoyed the challange and got a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and a 6th place finish.
Hope you enjoy seeing them and it sparks someone into thinking "Outside The Lines".

The first one I made is made of maple and I call it "The Pot Belly Stove".

Number two is cherry and it is called "The Apple Core".

For my third try, I went back to my old stand by, plywood. It is "The Square Egg"

On the fourth, a friend gave me some zebra wood and I got crazy on the design. It ended up looking more like "Tiger wood" So I called it "The Orental".

Hope you enjoy them and all comments good or bad welcome.
