I use the on Off foot switch. tried the dead man type and found it was tiring. I can move my leg in different positions for each cut. Its what works best for me

I also have some issuers with the pattern pages.  Usually the smaller one printed on the magazine page are OK, but the onse in the fold outs are for me, difficult at best. The holes from the staples and the folds  seem to have a mind of their own and appear right where I don;t want them.  The larger patterns are difficult to copy.  Closest large copier is a 50 mile round trip, and even then the folds-holes are sometimes a problem. I would most likely subscribe to a digital copy, even with the current content.  Just my 2 pennies worth.

The Coffee Shop / Jet 707000 Contractor saw Info request
« on: June 02, 2013, 08:23:44 am »
I have been researching table saws for a couple of weeks. So far I have eliminated everything except the Jet 707000 Contractor Saw.  I do like the cabinet saws BUT I do not have room for them. Does anyone have experience with the Jet?   According to the instruction manual, the bevel adjusts either by releasing the bevel lock and manually tilting the blade and locking or by pushing in the height adjustment wheel and setting the bevel.   Does this work satisfactorily?  Also what the distance from the front of the table to the blade? Any other issues, pro or con, would be appreciated.  I looked hard at the Bosch 4100.  The bevel adjust is only manual. I tried it in the store and it was difficult to adjust to any tilt other than 45.  It was even difficult to return it to 90 degrees and get it locked back down.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cutting Azek

Mike  Thanks.  They will be on my next order.

Ray   Did you use any of the sheet goods?    They come in 3/8 1/2/ 3/4 and 1 inch thick.  Oh and as for color in the sheet goods, if you like white, you are good to go.

GB  That would be 6 inches I hate it when an apostrophe falls off

Are there any comparable products that anyone knows of?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting Azek
« on: May 30, 2013, 08:08:39 am »
I was given an small (3"-12" 1/2 inch thick) piece of a material called Azek.  It is a pvc material. Smells just like pvc pipe when cut.  I did a test cut with packing tape on one side and the material welded (melted) back together. I then slowed down the speed in steps until I was as the slowest speed and still got welding to where it was very difficult( or impossible) to remove the cut piece. That was with a #3 FDUR blade.  Put tape on both sides and switched to a #7  - better but still not good. Went to a #9 blade and the results were better, but still had to really force the piece out.   Today I plan to try blue tape both side and clear tape over that.   Has anyone cut this material?   Are there better blades to use?
I have customer that wants his sailboat name in 6' letters and Old English ( or some fancy font  his woods not mine). Just looking for some advice.  Thanks in advance.

I have never used the debonder but acetone works great for that purpose.  Ub-stuck a kids fingers a while back.  then I put some on a rag and wipe and it removes it from the skin.   Most folks will probably want to use some hand lotion afterwards as the acetone realy dries the skin.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: BLO and Mineral Spirits
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:25:47 am »
I use BLO/MS, but I get the MS in a can that is not milky white.  I do have a gallon ofthe milky type, and it works good as paint/glue remover and it has very low odor.  Have not tried it as a mix, yet.Last year I had a problem with BLO/MS where  after applying it would not dry or cure. Stayed sticky for a very long time. Humidity was discussed as a culprit but I think I have found a better answer/reason.  When I put the mixture on pieces of oak plywood it remains tacky for a good while (2-3 weeks). When I put the same mixture on solid wood it works great. Might be the glues used in the ply keeps it from absorbing into the wood, and only the top veneer is absorbing. I switched to shellac on the ply and more or less problem solved.  I eliminated the humidity by trying it during the winter with dry air and same results as summer.  Be interesting to see if others have used the low odor milky type with good results.

Snagged a copy too Ray Thanks

Charles  Not being a pattern designer or seller I have no idea what rights would be worth.  I would guess it should be based on what one gets for a particular pattern over time.  I have seen yours and others patterns and prices for a single pattern, but have no clue as to how many time you 'sell' a pattern.

Nice looking booth!  What is the fencing you use.  Have seen that a few times and like it.  What a nice range of items.
