General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cedar Wood
« on: August 02, 2016, 09:01:02 pm »
I use over 500 board feet of cedar a year.  Eastern red cedar (aromatic)...  Western red cedar is what is used to make fences here in Texas.  It smells all together different than the aromatic eastern does.  Cedar's red color dulls quickly over time if no finish is applied.  I am guessing the off color cedar you saw would become very red once you run it through your thickness planer.  I finish cedar with a brushed on coat of sanding sealer (or lacquer) sand that smooth and then spray on lacquer or wipe on, then spray on, poly.

I missed three of these farmers markets this year.  My average gross sales this year are more than double last years average.
 (Go figure).
I have started to offer band saw boxes this year and priced them a bit higher than my other boxes.

Looks great.  You might like to try doing some inlay with a scroll saw.  That is how I did this one, on a small box lid.  I have made and sold a lot of these.

Today I sold all I had, four horses and five dinosaurs.  I need to bring more than five of each I guess.  Kids sure like the dinosaurs.

At last Saturdays sale, I sold two of the horses but none of the robots.  I plan to try again this Saturday.

Nice work!
I also started scrolling about 7-8 years back and never looked back. I spend about 35 hours a week there.  I have a complete wood working shop but enjoy scroll work the most.  I do Inlay with it mostly.

Had a sale Saturday.  Sold all my dinosaurs (2)  also two horses but not one Marvin nor a robot.  Kids do not know who Marvin is/was I guess.  I did sell two Minions though. And my usual ten rubber band shooters.

No photos this time.  I just have eight four foot long tables, arranged in a horse shoe arrangement, no tablecloths, with the product setting on them.  I have a few signs with prices on them.  Simple as that.  This works as well as displays I have made and used in the past.  I now just sign up for two spaces and can fit all my stuff on the eight tables easily.  This sale only lasts for three hours, so the less effort in set up, the better for me.

I had my first sale of the year today. A local farmers market. 9AM- Noon. Great sales. Over two times my last years average at this venue. Almost twenty times my space rent. First sale of the year there, is always good. Nice day 88? at noon. Breezy. Sold seven band saw boxes and seven boxes with inlaid images in the lids.. Also sold a bunch of toys and even some crosses. Oh yes, two canes and two stars. I also got one special order. I will be going to this farmers market every Sat all summer long. Well, I will miss a few but will go there whenever I can.

I just round those corners off a little.  I use a #5 blade for all my inlays.

What I do is to right click on the image, save to my computer and open it using "paint."  I can enlarge it there.
