The Coffee Shop / Spiders for Steve's scare box
« on: July 24, 2016, 05:13:55 pm »
Thought I might try the scare box in today's pattern.  Went on line to price the spiders.  In Steve's link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005O4DA3G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 a package costs $5.72 US plus shipping.  As I am in Canada, I tried the Canadian Amazon site https://www.amazon.ca/Party902-Strechy-Plastic-Spiders-plastic/dp/B01A9IC924/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469380251&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Party902+-+Strechy+and+Scary+Plastic+Spiders%2C+2%22%2C+Made+of+plastic+%281-Pack+of+12%29 .  $42.40 Canadian (about $55.54 US) plus shipping.

Am I the only one who sees a problem here?  Buy from a Canadian source and pay almost exactly 10 times the cost?  It's no wonder so many Canucks drive across the border.

My rant for the day.

The Coffee Shop / Re: Table saw tech. Help!
« on: July 13, 2016, 08:23:46 am »
There might be a blade height lock mechanism on the saw. On my old Craftsman, there is a lock lever right up under the underside of the table.  Tightening that prevents the blade height from changing.

Maybe you have something like that on your saw.

Good luck,
Jim

I like his warranty on protective properties of today's pattern.

Have a good day,

I'm not sure that a postal strike in Canada will stop all deliveries.  Since Canada Post , UPS, Fedex, etc. are in competition with each other, the courier services will be ready to take up the slack left if Canada Post stops delivery.  http://globalnews.ca/news/2794470/canada-post-work-stoppage-what-you-need-to-know-if-service-stops/  Scroll down to "Other delivery options".

It would be a good idea to use other delivery services, just in case.

Barb, you are lucky to be able to update husband 1.0.  My wife has been trying, without much success, I might add, to update me for many, many, long years.

The Coffee Shop / Tech Support in Marriage
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:06:31 am »
The young woman who submitted the tech support message below (about her relationship to her husband) presumably did it as a joke. Then she got a reply that was way too good to keep to herself. The tech support people's love advice was hilarious and genius!
The query:

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as: NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

The response (that came weeks later out of the blue):

Dear Desperate,

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: I thought you loved me.html and try to download Tears 6.2. Do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta version. Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Mother-In-Law 1.0 as it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.

In addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.  In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0.

Good Luck

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Soft wood scrolling

Interesting, thanks. Seems it can be used on many woods and thermally treated can be used as a replacement for some applications where treated wood is now used.

OK, a few more.

If your car says Dodge on the front of it, do you really need a horn?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Why is it called a "building" when it is already built?

Why is it called lipstick if you can still move your lips?

Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot at them?

Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

Why get even, when you can get odd?   (That's me.   ;D)

If work is so terrific, how come they have to pay you to do it?

If you can't drink and drive, why do bars have parking lots?

If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn?

If peanut butter cookies are made from peanut butter, then what are Girl Scout cookies made out of?  Don't know, but they sure taste good.)

If rabbits' feet are so lucky, then what happened to the rabbit?

If Superman is so smart why does he wear his underpants over his trousers?

Have a good day.

The Coffee Shop / Only In A Stupid World

Only in a stupid world do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in a stupid world do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet Coke.

Only in a stupid world do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in a stupid world do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in a stupid world do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in a stupid world do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

EVER WONDER?

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavour, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a Broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavoured cat food?

Why isn't there cat-flavoured dog food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes?  Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Many of us here use Flying Dutchman blades. To the best of my knowledge, Mike's Workshop http://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm (still in business but now owned by Wooden Teddy Bear) ships FD blades to the UK.  FD blades are made in Germany so there might be a closer source.

A few links that might give you some help.  http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=13786.0  http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=14640.0  and http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/buying-flying-dutchman-blades-t93955.html

Good luck,

Gene, most print options allow you to print the image larger or smaller.  You might have to look for it but it should be somewhere.  For instance, the print screen of my PDF viewer has a Custom Scale option under Page Scaling.

Try printing the pattern and then measure some feature of the pattern.  For example, if the feature you measure is 5" on the print and you want it to be 5.5", then try scaling the print at 5.5 divided by 5 = 1.1   Thus you would scale the next print by 110%.  You might have to experiment with different scales depending on how exact you want the pattern to be.

Hope this helps,
Jim
