General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Hegner Decision And Opinion
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:29:15 pm »
I currently have a Hegner, I did had a cheap brand before and I don't want to go back to that again.
think all top brand will be good, so look for functions that you "need".

Hegner = 18" or 22"
DeWalt = 20"
Excalliber = 21"

Do you like top or bottom feeding?

All I can say: I'm a happy verry  Hegner user!

Do not get a Dewalt to much back and forth motion
Get a Ecalliber 21 from this year the 2013 model.  But test one more before getting one.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What is food safe
« on: October 02, 2013, 04:55:07 pm »
For a food safe finish that will not chip, I use either shellac or a mix of beeswax and mineral oil.  The beeswax gives a smooth finish but not very shiny. Several coats of shellac produce a nice finish.

Do you mean you use the Bulls Eye Shellac  if so which one do you use the clear or the amber?

Well I am certainly Happy I started this Post (subject) as Thanks to my Scroll Saw Friends
I have picked up Bunches if Info.  Cyber the Bird House patterns were 1.75 on the thick
side is why I chose the 2" Popular.  All Lowes sells.  Besides OAK.  Nope for that.
Well it seems that OVER-ALL the Bass or a SOFT wood is the real answer.  Thanks Danny :+}

You can get basswood at fleetfarm in the craft department.
another thing you could do is get pine boards and glue them together to get it up to 2" think.
Lowes don't have much for good craft wood.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: How to print 3d keychain pattern
« on: September 30, 2013, 04:21:32 pm »
I watched Steve on the Stencil Printer (V1.7) show how to cut out 3d keychain. But I did not see "how" to make the 2 of the 3d pattern on the Stencil Printer...cause it is two patterns, creased and be folded over onto the other side.

Thanks

Phil

Yeah I would like to know tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Thanks Guys....  I did email Diana Thompson when I ordered another couple sets of bird house
patterns and she assured me that the Polar #5 was the ONLY blade she uses to cut all her
patterns before she announces they are for sell.  Says she would never use a UR blade as
they wonder and leave bevels sometimes.  Anyway....

Polar #5 blades work best in basswood or any soft wood.  If you are using hard wood like Popular wood.  I would make those blocks of wood 5" long and 1.25" think by 1.25" not 2" think. That whats you are doing wrong.

Yes cutting out compunds does take longer to cut out.
and also make sure your blades are sharp before you install them in the scroll saw and have really good tension on the blade.
If you have a dewalt scroll saw I would set the tension to 4 and half.

hope this helps.

nothing else olson blades the pgt are great for cutting out compounds and a big faster. But they do cost more.

General Scroll Saw Talk / What is food safe
« on: September 30, 2013, 04:06:19 pm »
I just want to know which wood wax finish is food safe and children toy safe forages under 5 years old and that don't chip off.

I was looking at birwax be is said on the side of the can it can cause cancer.

Oh by the way I have just sent my scroll saw to have him put new guts in my scroll saw for free.

 >:( I took my ex-21 scroll saw in there to get it fix will it been fix for about 35 days and now it is doing the samething when I took it in on 7/12/2013 it got that knocking noise again.  Whatever you do don't take your scroll saw or any power tools to acmetools stores anywheres. They sucks. Now I have to ship it to ray to have all new guts put in it. I think acmetools should give me a brand new saw with full lifetime warranty.

Whatever you do don't take any power tools to acmetools..

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Where to buy a good scrollsaw online
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:58:49 pm »
Hello!
I?m seriously thinking in changing my scroll saw and get a better one. The one I?m using it was very cheap (brand new for only 50$ lol!), but now I see that I can?t really work with that. The blades are like these http://www.accesorios-carpinteria.com/ftp/img/2011/5462.jpg and the perpendicular knobs of the blade makes me drill very big holes to make internal cuts. And it?s terribly slow and difficult to connect and disconnect the blade!!! Another problem I have, is that there isn?t any kind of vertical mechanical support for the wood I?m cutting. I have to push it down with my left hand, and sometimes the entire wood is pushed up violently by tha saw, and it?s very very dangerous for mi fingers, it?s very difficult to control. Look, it is this one: http://www.lidl-service.com/static/8887062/pic/main.jpeg

So, I think that is the moment of acquiring a better scroll saw. I?m looking for local sellers, but I can?t find scroll saws in the shops here. I think the use of this saws is not extended at all in spain! So... here is the question:

Anybody knows where to buy a good (or at least better!!!) scroll saw online, shipping to spain?!

Thanks a lot!!!!

Xavi

RAy get your saw from ray please.... he is great.....

Computer questions / Re: Can u have 2 many Anti-Virus?
« on: August 18, 2013, 07:07:39 pm »
Hope just in conclusion post on this subject.  Like I said above bout taking the charge
from our checking account.  Well it has been 3 days since Norton sent me the email
saying the charge was taken out on Aug. 5th.  Still don't know what to make of this?

Can't find anything saying Norton is even on the PC, so guess I happy.  Thanks to
all....  Danny  :+}

You can only have one anti-virus software running on your computer all they well is fight one another and end up crashing your computer.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Craftsman or olsan blades
« on: August 18, 2013, 06:58:18 pm »
I was looking at the sears site at there scroll blades, don't know what the store will have in stock, but they have reverse and others, a dozen are about the same as lowes, but a better selection. Does anybody have any idea how good these are? I think they also carry olsen are these good too? For me its about the only way I can get blades is in the big stores as most times all I have is cash on me and can't order online. I want to go look at sears to see what blades they have and the thickness of them, I use the ones at lowes bosch blades and they are hit and miss, can get a good set, but then turn around and get a set that won't last but a few cuts. I know the FD blades are good but don't have a option to order them unless I send cash first to mike to place the order then have to wait for it to be proccessed and sent back.

Get a pre-paid credit card and order them online.
FD-blades are good...

You can also get blades from menards as well.

Curiouser and curiouser.  I opened Steve's page in IE8 and found some links I never saw before, I also now see the boxes with the red "X".

In Firefox, I never saw the number of subscribers or the 4 links to Timber Tagger, CanCam, Hand Crocheted lace items, and Fix Registry.  Looking at the HTML of the page, the links are there but aren't visible in Firefox.  This is because I have used Ghostery to block trackers on all web sites.  I'll enable some of the trackers for Steve's site only, so I can see more of the page.

Not seeing the "X"s, etc. is not a virus, but I suppose it could indicate a virus, if the trackers were not blocked.

Thanks,
Jim

in that screen shot I see the red x's

I see a number of them.  Fortunately they don't seem to have any real negative impact on anything.

hello becky
I have sent steve a message about this. I really think its on his end. the link to those red x's are borken for some reason.  I pull out ever trick I can think of.  This started about a week or so ago.

I have IE9.0 and windows vista  basic
What do you have becky.

I'll post what  I find out.
