Sounds like a bad connection. I'd use your compressor and blow out the foot switch. All that fine sawdust is probably interfering with the contacts. I'd then mount it on one of the legs under the saw and use your knee to turn it on and off. The sawdust will have a better chance of just falling right on through in the future.

One reason can be the blade is in upside down. You will find you do have to hold a piece down even when the blade is facing the proper way but it should not be difficult to do.

2 speeds. Not fond of that. Plain and pin end blades means it probably has a funky blade holder. It seems heavy so maybe less vibration. I think I'd stay away from this one.
