There is so many talented members of this forum and I feel so privileged to be able to say I am friends with most of them I only wish I had the same talent as these new found friends of mine I was looking at Judy Hunter's web site and the variety of arts that this young lady has is astounding, there is many more members that have the same talents and I thank you all for sharing your talents

Hi Bugg, if it is for salt leave it natural wood, I make salt and pepper shakers on the lathe and do not put anything on the inside of the shakers and the salt stays dry all year round

I also cut both ways but I always feel that the blade is cutting easier counter-clock wise and get a straighter line[ if that is possible for me] I have used both Olsen and FD and find the FD are most of the time sharper and last longer

Which way do you cut? I cut from right to left or feed the wood in anti clock wise, I also do the same on the band saw when poss. they say it is some thing to do with the making of the blades

I have a 4" belt sander [linnisher] but find the disc sander is useless as it spins to fast and burns the wood, a hand belt sander and orbital sander is also a must for finishing if you want the job done quickly, I use a 10" disc sander on the lathe and run at 800rpm's and the paper lasts for a long time with out burning
