That is a GOOD one!! ;D
I don't have any little bells or pepper spray so I guess it's a good thing that I live in Kansas. Of course we don't have any alligators either!  ;D

I saw a report on TV sports the other night where a father actually dropped a kid to snag a fly ball. He got it and then picked up the child who was very shocked and sat back down.
That's excitement!!!

I had a thought. (Naw, it didn't hurt much)
As far as covering the switch but still being able to use it try Seran (sp) Wrap! I would cut a small piece, say 10" x 10". and clean the saw around the switch with a damp cloth and lay the clear wrap over the switch area loosely and press it down around the sides. It would keep saw dust out and yet let you see the switch and even use it for what it was intended to do.
If someone tries this idea, please post and let me know how it works. I have mine coverered with clear packing tape so I can see it but I cant use it.

I use the foot switch but if I'm going to change the blade or anything that might put a finger or such in a hazardous situation, I turn of the saw switch too just as a precaution.
Gabby

Gabby, you must be "Clumsy" too!!!
Don't you know where your feet are? I have cut my finger only once in the 10 years that I've been scrolling and that was because I was cutting a VERY small part and using the switch before I got my foot "dead man" switch.
As far as the tape residue, if you use the blue "painters tape",it won't leave any traces of glue but, will still keep the sawdust out of the switch.

Definitely do the wheels (cogs) from the best (most lamination's) plywood you can get. It shouldn't warp crack or break like solid wood would.
As far as the frame, do what ever you want to. I uses ply on mine but, if you look, I'll bet one of the mounting holes (in the plan)  is slotted for movement and for leveling when mounting. On the clock I built, it must be level to work properly and can be adjusted for that on one of the mounting holes that is slotted in an arc. I don't think using solid wood really make much difference even with drying or humidity.

Bearing down on a sander does not help! It just wears out your sand paper (and in this case the pad) instead of smoothing the wood. Try easing up on the pressure and taking a bit more time in a given area and you will get better results and believe it or not it will be faster too!
Try it you will like it.   ;D

I don't think you have to put the address's in ahead of time. If you know the address, it would still apply after a disaster and you could wait until you really needed it. Taking the quickest route may be a problem however do to streets being blocked or closed off however. In that case, just enter "detour" and it will give you an alternate route. At least that is the way my Garmin works.

Yes, I have built one of Clayton Boyer's clocks. Just this spring he had the plans for a wooden gear clock in the issue of "Scroll Saw" magazine that I built. And I am planning on making another one this winter I hope.
Don't be afraid of the wheels (gears) they are not too bad to cut.
Do read ALL of the instructions and follow them using the proper woods and parts. Short cuts don't help. DAMHIK
The hardest part for me was rounding up all the extra (non wooden) parts and pieces. (Especially getting the weigh and cord as indicated.)
I spent about a day cutting all the wooden parts, three days shopping and buying the non wooden pieces,  two days on assembly, two weeks getting everything to work all together at once and two months timing it.
It was fun though. And it is setting in my shop ticking away as I type this. Remembering to wind it everyday sometime slips my mind though.
Mine has given me some trouble as far as breaking but, not too bad. I just recently had to re build the winding mechanism due to a plywood delamination. (re-gluing didn't work)
Don't be afraid of it. Just take your time and have fun . It is very rewarding when you get it running and hear that "TICK TICK TICK".

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: A Curious Question About Speed
« on: May 27, 2011, 10:37:04 am »
Don't worry about speed unless you are scrolling to make money. Time doesn't matter if the end result looks like you want it to.
Careful cutting and finish are alot more important than how fast you cut it.
I used to spend 2 hours in a row cutting, now I will cut for 15 minutes and stop for a coke or go to the restroom and not worry about it. Of course, I'm retired and I feel that getting intrupted with a phone call or a friend stopping by is more important than a project. If I get it done today great, if I don't finish it for three days it is OK if it ends up looking like it should.

That looks exactly like the ones I made for Christmas gifts for my son and SIL a few years ago.
You did a very good job on it. Thanks for showing it to us.

You might try garage sales and auctions.
Last Saturday at an auction I saw a 16" Hagar with stand, work light, magnifier and a BUNCH of blades go for $75.00!
I could have raised the bid to $80.00 and probably got it but, I really don't need it. Most people at estate and personal property auctions don't know what good wood working tools are worth.
