Hey & welcome Joe!  Let me know if you are ever headed to Pinellas and we will see if we can hook up for a cup and some tall tales.

Welcome Tracy and let's hope that when one door closes another opens.  Usually seems to work out that way even if it does entail some trials and tribulations.  Glad to have you here!

Nice Dan!  My family and my wife's came from Ky.  I may have to make a few of those for presents.  They'd make great keychain fobs to.  We used to always say; "Kentucky, the land of fast women and pretty horses."

I'm not sure how to make a pen on a scrollsaw.   ::)

"The Best of Scrollsaw  -  Wooden Puzzles" has a wonderful Paul Bunyan tray puzzle which could be used as a pattern without being a tray.  If you can get a copy you might like it.

Paul, my son wouldn't likely know who Red Green is, but he will love your pattern for his desk at work.  Thanks!

You should also keep an eye on craigslist.com.  Sometimes there are some really good deals on the dewalt or other saws.  A friend got a Dewalt for $250 that had been barely used at all.

Reminds me of my German Shepard when he sees a raccoon.  Best to get out of the way.

I have personally cut jigsaw puzzles of photographs glued to baltic birch using a #2 or #3 reverse tooth blade without any white showing.  I would also expect a blade problem, either too large, or in upside down (much easier to do than it sounds).

You are right Gabby!  Especially because people tend to run them way too fast and they overheat.

All these Halloween pattern postings reminded me of my favorite Halloween joke:

Know why witches don't wear underwear?

Gives them a better grip on the broom. :o

I don't use a mask while scrolling, but I did when diving.  Most frequent divers use a couple of drops of baby shampoo mixed in water instead of the expensive drops sold at dive shops.  Just about all the pro spearfishing guys I knew did the same.  Never tried it on a shop mask.

The only real variable is where you start.  Some woods have a coarse surface to begin with & may need to start around 60 grit.  Use what is appropriate to the wood.  Once you have started, the best thing to do is to progress through the grits without skipping any until you reach what you are happy with.  Typically 100 or 120 followed by 150 or 180 followed by 220 and further if you desire.  Each grit should remove the scratches imposed by the previous.  If you skip a step, you may get a smooth feel, but have blemishes in the finish due to remaining scratches.  You can stop at 150 or go all the way to 2000 or higher, your decision.  For most woodwork 220 if adequate.  (My opinion only of course)

Another option if you have a drill press is a "fly cutter" bit.  They are usually adjustable as far as the diameter of the circle, and cut with either 1 or 2 spurs which rotate around the center hole bit.

I guess we could use it when the sand blows across the sidewalk, but I always just use the leaf blower (we don't really have many leaves either).  Oh the indignities of life in Florida :P
