The Coffee Shop / In Memoriam....
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:23:05 pm »

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed recently.

Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93.
The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.
They put his left leg in.

And then the trouble started.

Troubling Thought...
What If...the Hokey Pokey is really what it is all about?!?!?!?

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle,
when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the
mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some
items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large
and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it
with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf
balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was
full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it
into the jar

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous
'yes....'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table
and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively
filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed..

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your
life.

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your
children, your health, your friends and your favorite
passions---and if everything else was lost and only
they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job,
your house and your car..
The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he
continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf
balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff
you will never have room for the things that are important
to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your
happiness.

Spend time with your children..

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the
disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really
matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the
Beer represented.

The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you
asked.'

The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life
may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with
a friend.

The Coffee Shop / The Psychologist and the Proctologist...
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:35:42 pm »
The Psychiatrist and the Proctologist

Best friends graduated from medical school at the same time and decided that, in spite of two different specialties,  they would open a practice together to share office space and personnel.

Dr. Smith was the psychiatrist and Dr. Jones was the proctologist; they put up a sign reading:

"Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones: Hysterias and Posteriors."

The town council was livid and insisted they change it.

So, the docs changed it to read: "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids."
This was also not acceptable, so they again changed the sign. "Catatonics and High Colonics"......No go.
Next, they tried "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives"....thumbs down again
Then came "Minds and Behinds"....still no good.
Another attempt resulted in" Lost Souls and Butt Holes"   .......unacceptable again!

So they tried "Analysis and Anal Cysts".....not a chance.

 "Nuts and Butts".....no way
.
"Freaks and Cheeks".....still no good.

 "Loons and Moons".....forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the docs finally came up with
"Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones--Odds and Ends"
   Everyone loved it !!!

Yes, that is I!

Photo taken at my son's outdoor wedding on April 30, 2011. The sun was playing peekaboo with the clouds and the wind was blowing about 30 knots hence the need for the 'shades'!

Yes, I do clean up on occasion and under great duress even put on a suit and , horror of horrors, A TIE!
Worst part of dressing up is that since my shoulder problems I can't get the damn top button on the shirt buttoned and have to have help.

Next time I put on my tux I will be sure to have pic taken and really blow your minds!

Hugzzzzzzzzzzz to you all!

I just received this and have no idea of the author but I thought it appropriate for our GROUP!

Family isn't always blood.
It's the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are.
The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.

The Coffee Shop / Economic Outlook!!!
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:19:35 am »
Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown in the
economy, Congress has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50
years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs
and reducing unemployment.

This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to Congress to be considered for the
SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW
program ( System Covering Retired-Early Workers ).

A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as
Congress deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS ( Additional Income for
Dependants & Spouse ) or HERPES ( Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early
Severance ).

Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any
further by Congress.

Sincerely,
The Committee for Economic Value of Individual Lives ( E.V.I.L. )

PS - Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and
oil, as well as current market conditions, the "Light at the End of the
Tunnel" has been turned off.

Interesting to note that the Gallery and "Mug Shots" have been on line for two days now and we have eleven 'mug shots' and not a single one of our Lady Friends has put their lovely photos in the section!

Could it be that they are afraid that someone would recognize them from the Post Office wall?

If you have not checked it yet just go up to the top and click on the "GALLERY" entry and visit and add your photo and photos of some of your projects.

Another of the things that members asked for and Steve (The Exalted One) has worked and provided for OUR pleasure!

Thanks again Steve...you sure treat your friends right!

By The Way...don't forget to drop in on the 'blog' once in a while and drop a buck in the collection basket to help defray some of the cost of all this wonderful stuff we have!
