Brag Forum / Horse Box
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:32:55 pm »
Cut from 3/4 Pine ( box body ), 1/16 Poplar ( Box top and bottom ) and 1/16 Mahogany ( horse ), Bamboo ( hinge pins ).  This is a relatively simple box to make and since the lid is pinned in place there is no danger of someone putting it on wrong or loosing it.  The back of the box has a slight 3/16" 45 Degree chamfer to allow the lid to open.  The lid has a 1/16 radius relief on the bottom back corner to allow the lid to open without interfering with the opening.  This box was sealed with tung oil and then top coated with shellac.

Brag Forum / Shell and Fairy Garden Village ( WIP )
« on: June 09, 2014, 07:20:15 pm »
Here are my latest projects.

The shell is the normal shell that we can do.  The stand I made so that they interlock at 90 degrees.  The shell has been sealed with tung oil and then top coated with semi gloss lacquer.

The Fairy Garden Village however is a work and idea in progress.  I have yet to decide what goes into each of the 1/2 bowls glued to the 4 leaf clover.  Each bowl was 5 inches in diameter.  The ladders were cut from 1/8 poplar and the clover is pine stained with food coloring in denatured alcohol.  It is 12 inches tall and 9 inches wide.

Brag Forum / Eyeglass Holder with bowl and Phone Holder
« on: June 02, 2014, 08:16:00 am »
Here is yet another take on the nose eye glasses holder.  I incorporated a smart phone holder with this one.  Cut from 3/4 pine and 1/4 3 ply plywood. The phone holder part will fit most smart type phones as it adjusts from minimum width of 2 1/2 inches to a maximum width of 4 1/2 inches. The stand has a cord relief so that one could if they wished plug their phone in to charge while it was in the holder. The small oval bowl was also cut from 3/4 pine. Sealed with Tun Oil and Top Coated with shellac.

Brag Forum / Eyeglass Holder with bowl
« on: May 29, 2014, 06:49:40 pm »
This is a slightly different take on the classic nose type eyeglass holders.  I have added a small dish / bowl beside the nose to hold things like change, earrings, misc. things that you might not want to have on when not wearing your glasses.
Made from scrap pine, sealed with Tung Oil and then shellacked.

Brag Forum / Skittles Tower - Proof of Concept
« on: May 22, 2014, 08:25:44 pm »
This is an adaptation of Steve Goods Gum Ball dispenser and a jelly bean dispenser I recently saw on the boards.  The skittles drop from the wheel hole and hit 3 sloped ramps to end up in the pull out tray.  It will dispense Skittles, M&M's ( all makes ) Reeses Pieces, 1/2 gumballs and small shelled nuts.

The dispenser has been cut from pine and poplar.  It is 18 inches tall and 7 inches at the base plate.  It was finished with tung oil only.  This is the proof of concept build.  I wanted to see if it would work out.

Brag Forum / Wooden Koozie
« on: May 13, 2014, 07:56:58 pm »
Cut from pine. The rings are slightly larger than a 12 oz. soda can. Since the rings are slightly larger than the can I staggered the rings to fit a can when I glued it up, this provides air pockets to help hold the cold better. The koozie was sealed with tung oil with a little bit of ebony stain and then top coated with shellac.

Brag Forum / 7 inch Swag Bowl and an Elephant w\ Calf tray puzzle
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:28:39 am »
The tray puzzle was cut from 3/4 inch oak and has a 1/4 inch backer.  It was finished with Tung Oil.

The 7 inch swag bowl was a total salvage job.  A painted board was given to me and I was told it was a pine board.  I stripped the paint and I found one of those commercial ready to paint glue up boards.  This board had some great graining so I decided to use it for a bowl.  I also had a scrap piece of spanish cedar.  This bowl is 7 in in diameter, 4 inches tall and was sealed with Tung Oil and top coated with Shellac.
