General Scroll Saw Talk / Wood Art Fair
« on: December 13, 2011, 11:49:43 pm »
This last Saturday I did the Wood Art Fair at the Woodcraft Store in Ventura CA. I think I was the only scroller there out of about 22 Wood artist. It was a great day and my best sales ever! I had a variety of items from pattern makers such as Sheila Landry, Steve Good, Diana Thompson and Grampa among others. the top sellers were Sheila's sled ornaments and fretwork mini ornaments, Steves Ornaments and gift card holders, and Diana's Mini Birdhouse ornaments.
After adding up my receipts, I sold nearly $1000! Not bad for a long days work. The pictures were taken just before opening, I hadn't finished my tree yet.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Despite the wind
« on: December 04, 2011, 02:43:04 pm »
Had a Christmas Boutique scheduled yesterday, and as most of you know, we have had high winds here in Southern California. The weather forecast was to be calm on Saturday but no, it was very windy, and this was an outdoor event! Could not even set up my eze-up tent because it would of blown away. I had a small Christmas tree set up to display some of my ornaments. I had it clamped and duct taped to the table and almost lost it a couple of times. I could not set up every thing I brought because I was afraid things would blow away. Not many customers because of the cold wind and it was just a four hour show. Despite all this, I managed to sell $450!
I didn't even bring my camera because I knew it would be a disaster!
One more show next Saturday. This is a Wood Art show at the the Woodcraft store in Ventura, CA. Only local Woodworkers will be displaying and selling. I did very well last year and hope to do a lot better this year!

The Coffee Shop / NASCAR

I know most of you don't watch NASCAR racing and that's fine. Last night at the NASCAR truck race, Kyle Bush took out Ron Hornady who was contending for the championship. This was intentional after the two made contact on lap 14. The officials threw the yellow flag. While under the yellow flag, Bush came behind Hornaday and spun him into the outside wall taking out both trucks. Hornaday was still in contention for the championship while bush was not eligible. NASCAR parked Bush for the rest of the race. Bush was suspended from racing for the rest of the weekend, which means he can't race in the Nationwide race and in the Sprint Cup race. Bush was running for the Cup championship. With three races left, Bush is no longer a contender.
Personally, I think NASCAR did the right thing, What do you guys think?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Street Fair
« on: October 24, 2011, 12:03:24 am »
Last Sunday our woodworking club did the annual Street Fair in Thousand Oaks CA.
The club paid for the booth and we had about 12 members selling. I was the only Scroller. The problem with so many showing in one booth is not enough room to show items properly. We had three tables set up with no back drop to hang portraits and clocks. I tried to clump my stuff all together, but I also had some items spread around. I sold about 40 mini bird house ornaments, 25 gift card holders, several mini clocks and a hole slew of other stuff. Altogether we sold about $1700 with me selling the most at $550. Next year, We will have two booths and I will build a back drop!
