Intarsia / Completed Mr. Fixit/Woodworker
« on: June 14, 2011, 03:00:13 pm »
Well, here?s the completed Intarsia. I forgot to mention before, I used a real scrollsaw blade on the saw, It?s hard to see in the pictures, but looks real good in the Intarsia.

The first picture shows how I had planned to mount it on one of the doors in my shop; however, my wife saw it there and now thinks it?s too nice to have in a dusty ole shop. She wants me to go ahead and add the background with a frame and put it in the house!  We?ll see?

The second picture is how it would look on a wall without the background.

The third is just a little clearer picture.

The fourth is with the background, which need to be completed and a frame around it.

I hope posting WIP pictures made it more interesting than just a picture of the completed project.

Thanks for all the comments.

This is all I had time for today. We have to get ready to leave first thing in the morning to go up to our place, Lake Arrowhead, CA.

The pattern shows the wood I plan to use, as of now. This may change as well as the pattern as I go.

Intarsia / Old Patterns
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:39:42 pm »
I went through some of my old patterns looking for something to put on the cupboard doors in my shop and found a couple I think. with some changes, will work. I'll probably draw a couple more to fill all four doors.

The one I'll do first has my Hegner scrollsaw in it and thanks to Dan, who supplied me pictures of his DeWalt 788, I'll put it in the Intarsia in place of the Hegner seeing as most of the people on the forum seem to be using it.

I'll post work in progress if there's interest.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Need Help

I have an idea for a new Intarsia and am looking for a side view of a Dewalt DW788 scrollsaw. All the pictures I find are of the left side, I need the side view of the right side. If someone could take a picture and post it I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, Al

« on: May 13, 2011, 09:50:09 pm »
The Parents of Joel said they'd be thrilled to have the Intarsia of their son posted. They choose this picture, out of 10 shots, to have made because Joel wanted his number 3 to stand out. His father wore #3 when he played American Legion Ball.

Intarsia is 23" Tall
Woods Used: Walnut, Pine and Alder (Painted White)

Intarsia / New Project
« on: April 16, 2011, 05:40:04 pm »
This new Intarsia will be for my Grandson, that has received his Black Belt in Shao Lin Kung Fu and I?ll show work in progress by filling in the pattern as I complete each section. Hopefully it all turns out OK, if not it'll make good fire wood. LOL

I have the pattern sketched good enough to start, but I'll probably make a few changes as I go.

Toy Makers / Double Layer Puzzle
« on: April 13, 2011, 12:11:13 pm »
Here?s an idea for a different take on a puzzle for young toddlers and each one can be personalized with child?s name and etc.

The puzzle is made with a double layer which is a little more challenging than a single one and when all pieces are removed, the child has to recognize shapes, colors and sequence of putting pieces back in.

I must have made at least a dozen of these for my Grandkids and for my Daughters to give to their friends, with children, as gifts.

Here are a couple of mechanical Dinosaurs I made for my Grandson when he was into them.

The different body parts move up/down or back/forth as you move them.

General Scroll Saw Talk / For Intarsia Wannabe's
« on: April 05, 2011, 02:30:19 pm »
I was going through my Desk and ran across something I wrote several years ago.

Intarsias
? 2003

Just down the road?around the bend
Lies the art of making Intarsia?s, if you have the time to spend.
Many years of pleasure is waiting for you,
Which, I?m sure in your mind is long overdue.

You?ve worked for this moment most of your life,
And now?s the time to escape your daily strife.
There is no schedule to follow, no clock to punch,
No ten-minute breaks, no half hour lunch.

This period of time will belong to you;
You?ll make the decisions about what and how to do.
And using your creativity will be a very pleasant change in your life;
It?s something you can do with or without your husband or wife.

There is unlimited number of ideas for Intarsia?s you can do
If you?ll just let your mind run free; then grab a few.
All you need is a scrollsaw, a few sanders and some elbow grease,
Soon you?ll be putting out Intarsia pieces that are sure to please.

At times when you?ve had it with sanding you can stop and go to the mall;
Or, if you like do nothing at all.
Maybe catch up on your reading, or do something else that you like,
Tend the lawn and garden; maybe take a hike.

But, then it?s back to the workshop and a lot more fun,
Making something that?s enjoyed by everyone.
The time spent making Intarsia?s will pay a big dividend,
Just down the road......around the bend.

Al
