Brag Forum / Christmas ornaments No 3
« on: December 24, 2013, 01:54:44 am »
The large bell is a pattern by Sue Mey.  It is cut from thin marine ply.  The second is from a pattern by Patrick Spielman, also cut from thin marine ply.  A thin piece of acrylic that is paper thin was sandwiched between two cutting and Amos Glass Deco was used to give a stained glass effect.  Hope you like them

Here are some of the ornaments that I have made this year.  The sleigh was a Shield Landry design but I redesigned it so that I could send it to my Secret Santas. The tree are a Sheila Landry Design and I'm not sure where I got the poinsettia or the star.  Most are made from Rock Maple and American Walnut.  The paint on the poinsettia is from a wood coloring felt tip pen.  Hope you like them.

Brag Forum / At last something to show you.

I have not posted for a while, but I have been working and taking photos but this is the first time I could sit down and post.

I would like to thank Barry from Scroll Saw Village for giving me the opportunity to cut this pattern of 10 of the Dr Who faces.  It was certainly a heart stopping job but I love the way it turned out.  It measures 16.5" x 12".  There were approx. 402 cuts and it took about 18 hours just to cut it, that does not take into account drilling holes or sanding or framing.  There was not a spiral blade in sight, just normal blades.  Did I like cutting it YES.  Did I think half way through 'what the devil did I want to cut this for, YES.  Would I cut another NO.

Hope you like it.  Sorry its not a very good photo.

The Coffee Shop / What goes around......
« on: December 06, 2013, 01:01:12 am »
What goes around comes around, is the saying.  Well it did.  I made some bell ornament to go into Christmas cards and my husband asked if I could make him some so that he could give them to the ladies at work.  He took them today and now I have two bulk orders for ornaments for Christmas 2014, which I will start in July.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Question about finishing.
« on: November 07, 2013, 12:52:46 am »
I know some of you use 50/50 BLO, so when it is dry, do you spray on the clear polyurethane or do you brush it on? Which do you prefer?  Thanks for your help.

I got some money for my birthday so the first thing I did was to order a Click N Lock from BigFoot Products.  Ten days later it arrived.  Got it fitted today and I'm thrilled with it already.   :)

The Coffee Shop / Power to the little people
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:39:01 am »
My daughter was renting a house for 6 months and the landlord was a money hungry pig.  Lots of things kept breaking down and on one occasion he refused to get it fixed so she rang the Ombudsman and it was fixed immediately.  But because of this and the fact that she refused to stay after the 6 month lease was up he went through the house with a fine tooth comb to find something wrong.  Well he did, there was a broken fly screen door, which my husband could have fixed in less than 5 minutes. He wanted her to pay $81to get it fixed or not get her bond back of $1500, >:( when she refused because the screen was broken before she moved in he thought that he could frighten her by taking her to the Tenancy Tribunal, Sara's answer was "Bring it on".  Sara found a photo that was taken before she moved in and low and behold in the very corner of the photo you can see that the screen needed mending.  She got the photo enlarged and took it to the tribunal and won her case.  ;) Then the judge told the landlord that he was greedy and that the repair to the screen would not have cost $80 it may have only cost $20 and that he was to pay all court costs.  :P So the little people do win sometimes.  :)

The Coffee Shop / Best day of the year.
« on: October 18, 2013, 03:04:41 am »
Tomorrow (Saturday) Terry and I are off to the Melbourne Working With Wood Show.  We have been going for the last 15 years.  Would not miss it for the world, one year I got out of my sick bed to go, another year Terry had a Hernia operation on the Monday and we went to the show on the Saturday.  Its the one big chance to stock up on some really nice pieces of wood, especially my favorite Black-heart Sassafras.  I will be thinking of you all while I am enjoying myself. Not.  :o :D

It is so cold and wet here that I don't like to spend much time in the garage. So I have started to go out for an hour or so and get a couple of designs cut then come back inside. I will wait until it is warmer to put any finish on them, just getting them cut will be fine for now.
