General Scroll Saw Talk / Baltic Birch Plywood and Varnishing.... :+(
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:43:30 pm »
What is everyones flavor on getting a real high gloss on Baltic Birch????
Think I am developing a problem with this wood.  Using a OIL product like Steves Lemon Oil, or Dans BLO/Spirits or any of the Danish oil products I just DO NOT see a real good grain pattern afterwords.  To Light....And even after three coats of Minwax Poly. there is only a SLIGHT shine to it.  Hey am I doing something wrong????   Thoughts of yours are appreaciated.  Danny :+(

General Scroll Saw Talk / Info. for Hegner Owners.... :+}
« on: July 25, 2011, 05:19:10 pm »
Some back I posted a Blade breakage problem using the FD blades.
Well I think I found the reason my Hegner was breaking blades.
The little pointed blade holder on the top (don't remember what the name of this part is ?)  It has a threaded hole on the right and left sides.  Might be made for use of either a right or left handed person. Don't know.  Anyway....
I'm right handed, so the lil allen screw on the left I think is a adjustment point.  After using the magnifing glass I could see that the allen screw was backed out leaving a inditation (small hole) Well when I tighted the blade as normal I think the screw pushed the blade a lil into the shallow part of the hole causing a lil bend in the blade.  ....Anyway....  After re-adjusting the left side and cutting a stack of 2 quarter inch BB for I wud guess around a HOUR the blade was still intact and Yea! Did not break.  Yea!  Anyway for the Hegner owners I would LOVE to hear your feedback.  Thanks....  Danny  :+}

Brag Forum / DOUBLE DRAGON....:+}

This pattern was designed by our very own Steve Good.  The wood is quarter inch.  Backer is Mahoginey (sp) with BB on top.  Ran it thru the Lemon Oil.
I really enjoyed cutting this pattern.  I used a FD-UR #1 blade.  Went thru three of um.  The FD blades are still breaking EXACTLY where that lil crimp is....  Terrible.  Anyway any comments are Cool.  Later....  Danny  :+}

Has anyone cut 1.5 inch pine into a JIGSAW type of design?  I made sure my table and blade were a Perfect 90 degree angle cutting on 3/4" wood.  Well after the FIRST piece I found out that the jigsaw piece would only come out from the bottom of the blank. Cry.cry....:+(  This is not Correct.  I rechecked the table/blade on another 3/4" and it was perfect.  Can anyone direct me as to what is happening?  Thanks in Advance....  Danny  :+}

The Coffee Shop / Generation "Y"
« on: July 03, 2011, 11:32:34 am »
People born before 1946 were called The Silent generation..
People born between 1946 and 1964 are called The Baby Boomers.
People born between 1965 and 1979 are called Generation X, .
And people born between 1980 and 2010 are called Generation Y ,

Why do we call the last group Generation Y?

Y should I get a job?
Y should I leave home and find my own place?
Y should I get a car when I can borrow yours?
Y should I clean my room?
Y should I wash and iron my own clothes?
Y should I buy any food?
But a cartoonist explained it very eloquently below...

  Sorry the cartoon didn't arrive, but it shows a teenager boy from his backside with his jeans sagging low showing the Y OF U KNOW WAT.LOL

The Coffee Shop / An Old Mans Tomato Garden.... :+}
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:58:54 pm »
A Good ol? Italian way of getting things done!

   An old  Italian lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual
   tomato garden,  but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard.
   His only son,  Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man
   wrote a letter to his  son and described his predicament:
   Dear  Vincent,    I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be
   able to  plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be
   digging up a  garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would
   be over. I know you would  be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the
   old  days.       Love, Papa
   A few days later he  received a letter from his son.
   Dear  Papa,     Don't dig  up that garden. That's where the bodies
   are  buried.       Love, Vinnie
   At 4 a.m. the  next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and
   dug up the entire area  without finding any bodies. They apologized
   to the old man and left. That  same day the old man received another
   letter from his  son.
   Dear  Papa,    Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the
   best I could do under  the  circumstances.
   Love  you,      Vinnie

The Coffee Shop / Words that have True Meanings.... :+}
« on: July 01, 2011, 10:19:58 am »
When you see someone who is struggling, a co-worker who is discouraged, a friend who is not up to par, how do you respond? Our words can be what keeps a person going; our compliments can put a spring back into their step. Now more than ever, we need to automatically let the encouragement flow. We need to tell others how much we love them, how we value them, and tell them that they are talented and creative. Always remember, with your words you carry life-giving water. You carry hope, healing, encouragement and new beginnings, and you can pour it out everywhere you go.

Today, choose to speak encouragement. Choose to speak victory and faith. Instead of telling people what they?re doing wrong, instead of pointing out all their faults, find what they are doing right. Focus on the good. There are already enough critical, judgmental people in the world. Let?s be people who lift up others and restore them. Let?s be the light of Jesus in the world.

Brag Forum / Pattern named....Pollenation.... :+}
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:10:41 am »
Good Thursday morning to ALL....
     A friend of mine on another Forum offered this pattern for cutting.  Didn't feel I wanted to get involved in it, but then something told me to GET IT STARTED and now here is my final cutting of it.  I cut it stack of two.  Top was 1/4 maple with bottom 1/8 BB.  Used a FD-UR #1 BLADE.  Started out with the #3, but it just wouldn't let me turn sharp enough to stay on the line.
The #1 CUT ALMOST PERFECTLY.  Yea!  This pic is with no oil/stain etc.  I do plan on finishing it and putting it into a frame.  Hey I welcome pros n cons.
                                    Later....  Danny  :+}

P.S.  I love that lil ole bumble bee.  LOL  Love the close up of him.  LOL

The Coffee Shop / I am Happily Married.... :+}
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:09:11 pm »

After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife went in for counseling.  When
asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade
listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married.

She went on and on and on:  neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling
unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had
endured.

Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist
got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, embraced
and kissed her passionately as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow.
The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze.  The therapist
turned to the husband and said, 'this is what your wife needs at least 3
times a week  Can you do this?'

"Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I
go fishing," replied the hubby.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting on the Line as Compared to....
« on: June 20, 2011, 07:03:43 pm »
Howdy Ya'lls....  Cutting a Pattern....:  A LINE is a MUST....  Noticed that a few of US like to cut a pattern when the CUT OUT AREA is COMPLETELY BLACK.  There IS NOT A LINE.  Anyway....Guess it was a Senior Moment.  LOL but I went thru the whole thing of applying painters tape to my wood blank, spraying the pattern and top of tape AND APPLYING MY PATTERN.  Well I bet all of you have already guessed....Yepper!  The pattern is completely BLACK where I need to cut out.  Well I could have removed the tape and pattern and started all over, but decided to CONTINUE.  Kind of a TEST for my ability at the Scrollsaw.

Well I will honestly say that if this pattern had of been a real CRITICLE type of pattern I would have completely RUIENED IT....BUT....Believe it of now, but after finishing it I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT.  LOL  Its my Lil Sis's TURTLE I asked for a pattern.  Anyway I shall post a picture of it soon.  Just wanted to ASK ALL.

Your opinions of cutting on the LINE or OTHERWISE.  Thanks ....  Danny  :+}

The Coffee Shop / A TRUE story. wat wud u do in the perdicament?
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:22:23 pm »
>     A WOMAN was flying from Melbourne to Brisbane .
>     Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sydney along the way.
>     The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.
>     Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind.
>     A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her Guide Dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight.
>     He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by Name, said, 'Kathy, we are in Sydney for almost an hour.  Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?'
>     The blind lady replied, 'No thanks, but maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs.'
>     Picture this:
>     All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a Guide dog!
>
>
>
>     The pilot was even wearing sunglasses.
>

>
    People scattered.

They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!

True story.......Have a great day and remember.......
