The Coffee Shop / The Nun at HOOTER'S...
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:23:05 pm »
A NUN AT HOOTERS

A nun, badly needing to use to the restroom, walked into a local
Hooters. The place was hopping with music and loud conversation
and every once in a while 'the lights would turn off.'
Each time the lights would go out, the place would erupt into cheers.
However, when the revelers saw the nun, the room went dead silent. She walked up to the bartender, and asked,
'May I please use the restroom?
The bartender replied, 'OK, but I should warn you that there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf.'
'Well, in that case, I'll just look the other way,' said the nun. So the bartender showed the nun to the back of the restaurant.
After a few minutes, she came back out, and the whole place stopped just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause.
She went to the bartender and said, 'Sir, I don't understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?'
'Well, now they know you're one of us,' said the bartender,
'Would you like a drink?'
'No thank you, but, I still don't understand,' said the puzzled nun.
'You see,' laughed the bartender, 'every time someone lifts the fig leaf on that statue, the lights go out.
Now, how about that drink?

General Scroll Saw Talk / FD New Spiral #3/0...Preliminary Review....
« on: January 26, 2013, 06:48:44 pm »
Are they SMALL? Very much so... I tried the three sample blades on a portrait I am working on in some very small detail cuts and they work well.

They appear to me to be somewhat aggressive but I haven't been on the saw for over two weeks so I may just be out of practice.
Cutting a stack of  2 - 1/8" BB and 1 - 1/4" 'sandeply' backer they did a fine job of cutting and not much in the way of 'fuzzies'. The saw speed MUST be as fast as your saw will run without vibrating off the stand.

First and foremost if you are not experienced using the 2/0 spirals don't even consider ordering them!
If you do not have your blade holder set screws in the proper alignment they will "hockey stick" on you. DO NOT overtighten your blade holding screws.
These suckers are TINY! Imagine trying to cut with a piece of hair you pulled out of your 'nether region'!

Will I order more and use them? YES, but only in the areas where I need extremely fine blades for very detailed cuts. They are not something I will use on a regular basis. They, like all other blades, have a specific use and for that they are wonderful.

About a year ago I tried several different brands and sizes of spirals including a recommended Galaxy 2/0 and I determined that the FD New Spiral #2/0 was my go-to blade for portrait cutting.

So in summary...They work well for their intended purpose and I will use them for that purpose.

I will place an order tomorrow for 3 dozen and as I use them further I will post my comments.

General Scroll Saw Talk / 3/0 New Spiral Blade!!!
« on: January 25, 2013, 10:46:21 pm »
I got 3 sample blades from Mike this week and finally got to put one in my saw today...

I will be giving them a true workout tomorrow but from what I was able to determine today I want MORE!
Super fine KERF for a spiral blade and the few cuts I made were very true, easy to control and cut trhough 3/8" of BB (stack of 3 - 1/8") like a hot knife thru butter.
Cut true and easy in all directions.

Will post more tomorrow after using them in an actual portrait cutting situation.

The Coffee Shop / The wisdom of an old Jewish Man!
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:09:21 pm »
A female CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time.

So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site.

She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him
 for an interview.

"Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name?

"Morris Feinberg," he replied.

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall
and praying?"

"For about 60 years."

"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"

"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims."

"I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop."

"I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults and to love their fellow man."

"I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the people ahead of their own interests."

The Journalist then asked: "How do you feel
after doing this for 60 years?"

"Like I'm talking to a wall."

The Coffee Shop / Me 'n' Leroy.....
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:20:26 pm »
Government at work....

A guy stopped at a local gas station, and after filling his tank, he paid the bill and bought a soft drink. He stood by his car to drink his cola and watched a couple of men working along the roadside.
One man would dig a hole two or three feet deep and then move on. The other man came along behind him and filled in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was 25 feet behind filling in the hole.
The men worked right past the guy with the soft drink and went on down the road. "I can't stand this," said the man tossing the can into a trash container and headed down the road toward the men.
"Hold it, hold it," he said to the men. "Can you tell me what's going on here with all this digging and refilling?"
"Well, we work for the government and we're just doing our job," one of the men said.
"But one of you is digging a hole and the other fills it up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting the taxpayers' money?"
"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said, leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally there's three of us: me, Elmer and Leroy . I dig the hole, Elmer sticks in the tree, and Leroy here puts the dirt back.

Elmer's job's been cut ... so now it's just me an' Leroy .
