The Coffee Shop / Why I'm now divorced. Humor

Why I Am Now Divorced
-- -----------------------

Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel
very well waking up on that morning.

I went downstairs for breakfast
hoping my husband would be pleasant and say,
'Happy Birthday!',
and possibly have a small present for me.

As it turned out,
he barely said good morning,
let alone ' Happy Birthday.'

I thought....   Well, that's marriage for you,
but the kids.... they will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast
and didn't say a word..

So when I left for the office,
I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent.

As I walked into my office,
my handsome Boss Rick, said,
'Good Morning, lady,
and by the way
Happy Birthday! '

 It felt a little better
that at least someone had remembered.

 I worked until one o'clock ,
when Rick knocked on my door
and said, 'You know,
It's such a beautiful day outside,
and it is your Birthday,
what do you say we go out to lunch,
just you and me..'

 I said, 'Thanks, Rick,
that's the greatest thing
I've heard all day. Let's go!'

We went to lunch.
But we didn't go where we normally would go.
He chose instead a quiet bistro
with a private table.
We had two martinis each
and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.

On the way back to the office,
Rick said, 'You know,
It's such a beautiful day...
We don't need to go straight back to the office,
Do We?'

 I responded, 'I guess not.
What do you have in mind?'

He said, 'Let's drop by my place,
it's just around the corner.'

 After arriving at his house,
Rick turned to me and said,
If you don't mind,
I'm going to step into the bedroom
for just a moment.
I'll be right back.'

'Ok.' I nervously replied.

He went into the bedroom and,
after a couple of minutes,
he came out
carrying a huge birthday cake ...
Followed by my husband
my kids, and dozens of my friends
and co-workers, all singing 'Happy Birthday'.

And I just sat there....

On the couch....

Naked.

The Coffee Shop / Pa Sleeps Naked
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:22:15 pm »
Pa Sleeps Naked...
"Late again," the third-grade teacher said to little Sammy.
"It ain't my fault this time, Miss Crabtree. You can blame this'un on my Daddy. The reason I'm three hours late is my Daddy sleeps naked!"
Now, Miss Crabtree had taught grammar school for thirty-some-odd years. Despite her mounting fears, she asked little Sammy what he meant by that.
Full of grins and mischief, and in the flower of his youth, little Sammy and trouble were old friends, but he always told her the truth.
"You see, Miss Crabtree, out at the ranch we got this here low down coyote. The last few nights, he done ate six hens and killed Ma's best milk goat
Last night, when Daddy heard a noise out in the chicken pen, he grabbed his shot gun and said to Ma, "That coyote's back again, I'm a gonna git him!''
"Stay back, he whispered to all us kids!"
"He was naked as a jaybird, no boots, no pants, no shirt! To the hen house he crawled, just like an Injun on the snoop.
Then, he stuck that double barreled 12 gauge shot gun through the window of the coop."
"As he stared into the darkness, with coyotes on his mind, our old hound dog, Zeke, had done woke up and comes sneaking' up behind Daddy. Then, as we all looked on, plumb helpless, old Zeke stuck his cold nose to Daddy's backside!"
"Miss Crabtree, we all been cleanin' chickens since three o'clock this mornin'!"

Ask Steve a question. / Finishing Pine Suggestion
« on: April 04, 2011, 03:38:27 am »
Hi Steve.
I was just reading some of your posts on your blog, and one of them asked about finishing pine and the difficulty of applying stain evenly.

One way I know of from wood shop so many years ago, that I have used to enhance the appearance of common pine or fir, and others.

You are going to thump your forehead. LOL

Use a small butane torch and lightly char the wood until you get the effect that pleases you. remember to keep the torch moving to prevent burned spots. Especially good for "rustic" projects.
Many of those butane torch kits have a wide angle torch tip like this  < , this should be the tip of choice.
It can be done with the tip designed for soldering but that requires a light touch to prevent unsightly burned spots. If you have never tried this, test it out on some scrap material. I recommend doing this outside, or your smoke detectors may go off, safer out there too especially if you are careful and don't do this in an area that a fire could be started in! "Elementary my dear Watson."  :)

A plain piece of wood can be converted by scorching it heavily around the perimeter shading toward the center, which frames and draws the eye to the details within. Visualize a wolf or eagle treated this way. Good for those irregular shaped pieces that defy framing. I've learned the best frames focuse the eye to the subject rather than drawing attention to itself.

Then finish with the clear finish of your choice, I usually use a semi gloss or satin. Gloss won't give the same effect and you may have problems getting an even look over those areas scorched the heaviest as they will absorb more.

I'm really enjoying your site and forum. I've met some great friends here and am amazed by the support shown to all that need it.
I hope this is helpful.

The Coffee Shop / Just for Marion or anyone that cares to take a peek
« on: April 04, 2011, 01:50:11 am »
This is a quote, of a philosophical statement I couldn't ignore.

"The truest love always seems to have 4 legs...Marion"

It prompts this reply,

Animals don't know how to lie!

Only the animal known as Man.

Marion I would like to borrow it and cut it for some of our other lovers of four legged friends.

I think it will make a great plaque!

It would make a great remembrance of a faithful friend of mine
named "Sun-Up Dances With Quail" who saved me from a deadly situation, with a black bear sow and her cub.

What say you?

Dancer regularly took her siesta there in the sun, this is my wallpaper.

Brag Forum / Finally a nice day!
« on: March 29, 2011, 12:20:41 am »

Hey Y'all:
Had a good day practicing put in about 3 hours working on a fretwork EARLY train one where the engineer stands on a platform at the back of the engine, and the coaches look like stage coaches.
Larned something too!
Steve and mrsn make it look so easy, but the part that doesn't come across, is how lightly they hold and feed the wood to the saw. I was holding DOWN like it would jump over the moon, which caused a bunch of tension, twern't fun neither, I wasn't able to tell how the blade was cutting since I was putting all that pressure, down, forward, and sideways.
Once I loosened up and relaxed I was even able to swing 90 deg. and more without stopping or breaking a blade from binding. Too cool!
One of these years if I live long enough, I may get the hang of this itty bitty saw.   ;D ;D

Thanks for your input.

The Coffee Shop / The Fast Bull, true story!
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:21:36 am »
The Fast Bull

Down in Central Texas.
At a little cross roads store where the locals hung out,
drinkin their RC Cola an spitting in the road.

Jethro was always goin' 'round bragging on his fas Bull.

When asked how fas were he?

Jethro 'd say
Wall Y'all know the  X press train runs thru muh South pasture fer bout 2 mile..
Wall, thet thar bull meets it goin' Westbound evra mawnin and races it 'crost
thet thar pasture an beats it to t'other side, then waits fer it to come back in the evnin,
and beats it goin' t'other way!

Ol' Dout'n Tom says, Jethro, tha's gotta be a bunch o' bull, t'aint no bull thet fas.

Wall Ol' Jethro just couldn't let it slide. An so he says wall if'n y'all don't blieve me come on
down some time an I'll show yuh.

With that he climbed in his old Ford truck and rattled away, as it wuz supper time.

Next mawnin while Jethro was a tell'n Hank, his hired hand, whut all he wanted done
that day, they noticed a cloud of dust comin' up the road.
Jethro just knew it was thos guys from the cross roads, lookin' to see his fas bull.

Hank says he, them ol' boys are lookin' to see my fas bull, you know there aint none,
but I caint
let them know it. I'm goin' ta hide out you've got to send them off thinkin' I aint here.
With that he ran and hid in the sprang house.

Bout five minutes later a couple of trucks roll up full of them ol' boys a lookin' fer Jethro an that fas bull.

They all lit down and found Hank throwin' slops to the hogs, and hollered, whar's
Jethro at Hank, we came to see his fas bull?

wall ol' Hank hac been studyin' on whut ta tell them ol' boys.
So he said ------

Wall boys ol' Jethro aint here today, he had tuh go and take keer o som biznezz,
he's goin over tuh Foat Wuth, then up tuh, Paympa, and on over to Amrillo, from thar, he's
heddin down tuh Brownwood, then on to Huston and should be back fer supper tomora night some time.

Ol' Tom chimed in and asked, how's goin' to get tuh all them places an back by tomora night, fly?

Ol' Hank said,
Naw su he's a riddin' that thar fas bull!!!!!!

It's been many years since I first heard this story. I just might have been down in Comanche, but maybe not. It took a while to bring it all back to mind, and I may have added or subtracted a detail or two. But it's all true!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Olson spiral blades
« on: March 24, 2011, 09:50:27 pm »
Yesterday while shoping for spray adhesive and painters tape, I checked with the clerk and found they carried a few blades, and had some spiral blades. $8.99 per Dozen.
Braveing the chilly wind in my carport, I decided to try them out. After breaking 2 of them in less than 15 minutes of experimentation. I was completely disgusted with them. I found they were prone to bending quite easily as well. I was not forceing or pushing them but rather taking it quite easy as they were a new item.
The upshot of all this is I'll NEVER  buy any more of their product.

Flying Dutchman or nothing!!!!
