General Scroll Saw Talk / Staining etc.... :+}
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:44:22 pm »
There is a article in the Scrollsaw mag. about mixing Sanding Sealer and Paint Thinner.  50/50 and applying it to your project.  24 hrs. drying time and I just had to mention that I AM VERY, VERY HAPPY with the outcome.  The project I experimented on was my DRAGON.  The large oval.  Anyway after the mixture dried I could see that all the inside fretwork looked like it had already been varnished.  220 grit sanding and it is really, really smooth.

Has anyone heard or used this process?  Tks............Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Finishing Baltic Birch Plywood?
« on: September 14, 2011, 01:07:36 pm »
I know for some this is a kind a re-run post, but it has really been bothering me.
Cutting a Portrait out of say 1/4 BB is from all that you all have said the better of wood choices.  Run it thru a Danish Oil or other and a shot of semi-gloss lacquer and all looks good.  I've been cutting various designs of Christmas Ornaments.  All using 1/8 BB.

MY QUESTION....  How does everyone finish them?  My hang up is using the various danish oils or even a stain and a couple coats of semi-gloss lacquer
they just look plain ole PLAIN.

The projects I have finished in the past like using Pine, Popular,Cedar or other big store wood.  The final coat of Lacqure is Beautiful with a wonderful looking shine.

Anyway....  Danny  :+}

The Coffee Shop / DRAFTING MEN OVER 60....:+}
« on: September 03, 2011, 02:34:03 pm »
You may be too young to appreciate this, (not by much) but you surely know someone that this could relate to.

        DRAFTING MEN OVER 60

         Why waste the young --

          Drafting men over 60  ----
        This is funny & obviously written by a Former Soldier-

         I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

         For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

         Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

         An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 a..m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, 'I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-b!?$h.

         If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

         Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling..

         They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

         Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

         An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

         These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way..

         Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

         How about recruiting Women over 50 ....in menopause! You think Men have attitudes! Ohhhhhh my God!
         If nothing else, put them on border patrol.... They'll have it secured the first night!

Well its close to MY annual November Craft Fair thing and altho I have many, many different things my mind goes back to LAST YEAR and the PUBLIC just did not have the BUCKS to buy....  Anyway that's the way (I see it)
Is it going to be BETTER this year?  (HOPE SO)....  Anyway My Question goes out to all the ones that do the Craft Shows pretty regularly.  Lets take Christmas ornaments (any type)  Easy to cut a STACK of SIX.  That's really quite A LOT over-all in a short time frame.  All I can think of to do with the fancy stuff is stain/varnish (to not have to take a lot of time) and I was thinking of selling them REAL CHEAP.  Like a buck a piece.

CAN ANY OR YAS OFFER ME BITS N PIECES OF YOUR EXPERIENCE?

These craft shows are ONLY a way to get a lil ahead for all the time spent.

Any feed back would be GREATLY Appreacieated....  Tks....  Danny  :+}

To ALL that replyed to my past post concerning the tacky glue.
I did buy a bottle (brown) and I have used it to glue up bout a
dozen of my picture frames.  My feelings are ITS GREAT....  Yea!
It seems to me that it goes on easier than other glues and it spreads
much, much better.  I have ALWAYS used Titebond and this product
just got stuck in my head and had to experiment with it.  Anyway....
                                                                            Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Aileens Tacky Glue....
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:22:07 am »
Well after reading several of ya's that use this glue I did run across it at Good Ole Walley World.  $1.79 for 4 oz.  Had a small project going so decided to give it a test.  Maybe there could be something I did WRONG.
Well I applied it and clamped it and even forgot about it till this morning.
Bad, bad, bad, bad glue.  After un-clamping I just held it in my hand and of course pulled a lil and Wow!  It just fell apart!!!!  Was gluing cedar.  Any thots would be great.  Thanks....  Danny  :+}

Brag Forum / Nascar & Merry Go Rounds.... :+}
« on: August 02, 2011, 06:20:45 pm »
Have a line up of Nascar cars going, but wanted to show my TWO FAVORITES.
     One of um will win all the beans this year.  Hope its Jeff....

Cut this wat I call a merry go round.  I made the normal animals according to the plans, but modified the other with the dinosoars.  Gonna make some for Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc.

The Cars designer is our very own Steve Good.  The other I can't remember where I got the pattern.  Some mag. I think.  Anyway  Later....  Danny  :+}

Brag Forum / A Clock & Dragon....:+}
« on: August 01, 2011, 05:21:48 pm »
Howdy....  Golly Gee it sure is HOT down in Dixie....Whew!
                                Anyway
Here's a couple of Steve's designs.  Had a lot of fun cutting both.
The clock is basic....3/4 pine & 1/2 popular.  This is the very FIRST
time I made a craft with a clock.  The dang thing cost me $15.00
counting S&H!!!!  Awful....  That's the cost for ONLY the clock!  Think
I won't mess with crafts that need a clock anymore.  Oh yea I do two
Craft Shows each year and I would have to put a cost of $30 just to break even.
That's to rich for folks around here.  Anyway I enjoyed cutting the
dragon and kind of made the oval a insert thing.  Came out ok for me.
Okey Dokey....Time to attack....  Later Danny  :+}
