The Coffee Shop / A "Reminder"!!!
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:00:11 am »
SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?"
SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?"
SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour."
SON: "Oh! (With his head down).
SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?"
The father was furious.
DAD: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

DAD: "Are you asleep, son?"

SON: "No daddy, I'm awake".
DAD: "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $50 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
SON: "Oh, thank you daddy!"
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: "Why do you want more money if you already have some?"

SON: "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do.

"Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

The Coffee Shop / President's Day....
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:48:13 pm »

I was eating breakfast with my 10-year-old Granddaughter
and I asked her,  "What day is tomorrow?".

Without skipping a beat she said,  "It's President's Day!".

She's smart, so I asked her "What  does President's Day mean?".
I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln, etc.

She replied, "President's Day is when the President steps
out of  the White House, and if he sees his shadow, we have
4 more  years of B**#  S&%#."

You know, it hurts when hot coffee spurts out your nose!

The Coffee Shop / Pranks get more creative every day!

Farm kids in Kansas

You can never underestimate the innovativeness of American Farm Boys:

At a high school in Kansas, a group of male students played a prank. They let three goats loose inside the school.
But before turning them loose, they painted numbers on the sides of the goats: 1, 2 and 4.

School Administrators spent most of the day looking for No. 3.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Midwest Woodworking Show...
« on: February 09, 2013, 06:42:30 pm »
Held this weekend at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, IL just across the river from St. Louis, MO.
I attended and worked the room for over two hours. Plenty of displays, demonstrations and vendors. NOTHING specific to Scrolling! Only scrollsaw I found was as I was leaving and came across the booth hosted by the St. Louis Woodworkers Guild (slwg.org) and I was welcomed with open arms. They are a good group which I think I will join. All types of woodworking and they freely welcome everyone from the beginner to the most accomplished woodworker. They have a full woodworking shop set up in a St. Louis County Park which they make available to all members. And they do a lot of good making toys for hospital patients and under privileged kids.

The vendor booths were great and PeachTree was the primary vendor for buying 'goodies'. I think they had most of their employees and it seemed at least half their inventory for purchase. I spent my allowance and then some!

Most common demonstrations were 'turning pens' and other lathe projects. Outside was a demonstration area for the lumber miser saw cutting logs down to usable lumber.

An enjoyable afternoon and lots of conversation with other woodworkers.

Awaiting the call from the surgery coordinator to set appointments.
Going to do them both about 2 weeks apart sometime soon.
Will be glad to get rid of the night time 'haloes' around all lights and the feeling of always looking thru a slight 'fog'!

I'm making sure to get any 'procedures' done THIS YEAR!!! Also need carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist.
God only knows what helthcare will be like next year when the new system kicks in!!!

The Coffee Shop / The "Invasion"......
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:07:15 pm »
A US Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans in a row boat heading for California. The Captain gets on the loud speaker and shouts, " Ahoy, small craft, where are you headed "?

One of the Mexicans puts down his oar, stands up and shouts, " We are invading the United State of America to reclaim the territory stolen by the USA in the 1800's "!

The entire crew of the destroyer breaks out in laughter and when the captain is finally able to catch his breath, he get back on the horn and asks, " Just the four of you "?

The Mexican stands up again an shouts, No, we're the last four, the rest are already there "!
