The Coffee Shop / WOW we are a friendly bunch!`
« on: October 01, 2010, 10:00:07 pm »
I was just on the 'Introduce Yourself' section and it just continues to amaze me that someone joins the group, introduces themselves and almost immediately there are 'welcome' greetings from Around the World!!!

The only area we seem to be missing is the Asian countries. Of course I would expect to not hear from China but I wonder if they do scrolling in Japan, Thailand, etc.

The Coffee Shop / Idiot of the Day...#7
« on: October 01, 2010, 09:30:14 pm »

Idiot Number Seven

Arkansas: Seems this guy wanted some beer pretty badly.

He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run.

So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window.  The cinder block bounced back knocking him unconscious.

It seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass.

The whole event was caught on videotape.

The Coffee Shop / Actual Comments taken from Police Videos....
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:47:05 pm »
These are actual comments made by 16 Police Officers.

The comments were taken off actual police car videos around the country:

16. 'You know, stop lights don't come any redder than the one you just went through.'

15. 'Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they're new. They'll stretch after you wear them a while.'

14. 'If you take your hands off the car, I'll make your birth certificate a worthless document.'

13. 'If you run, you'll only go to jail tired.'

12. 'Can you run faster than 1200 feet per second? Because that's the speed of the bullet that'll be chasing you...'

11. 'You don't know how fast you were going? I guess that means I can write anything I want to on the ticket, huh?'

10.. 'Yes, sir, you can talk to the shift supervisor, but I don't think it will help. Oh, did I mention that I'm the shift supervisor?'

9. 'Warning! You want a warning? O.K, I'm warning you not to do that again or I'll give you another ticket.. '

8. 'The answer to this last question will determine whether you are drunk or not. Was Mickey Mouse a cat or a dog?'

7. 'Fair? You want me to be fair? Listen, fair is a place where you go to ride on rides, eat cotton candy and corn dogs and step in monkey poop.'

6. 'Yeah, we have a quota. Two more tickets and my wife gets a toaster oven.'

5. 'In God we trust, all others we run through NCIC.'

4. 'How big were those 'two beers' you say you had?'

3. 'No sir, we don't have quotas anymore. We used to, but now we're allowed to write as many tickets as we can.'

2. 'I'm glad to hear that the Chief (of Police) is a personal friend of yours. At least  you know someone who can post your bail.'

AND THE WINNER IS....

1. 'You didn't think we give pretty women tickets? You're right, we don't.. Sign here.'

The Coffee Shop / Teacher Comments on Report Cards!
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:42:04 pm »

These are actual comments made on students' report cards by teachers in the  New York City public school system.
All teachers were reprimanded (but, boy, are these funny!)

1. Since my last report, your child has reached rock bottom and has started to dig.

2. I would not allow this student to breed.

3. Your child has delusions of adequacy.

4. Your son is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.

5. Your son sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.

6. The student has a 'full six-pack' but lacks the plastic rings to hold it all together.

7. This child has been working with glue too much.

8. When your daughter's IQ reaches 50, she should sell.

9. The gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming.

10. If this student were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.

11. It is impossible to believe the sperm that created this child beat out 1,000,000 others.

12. The wheel is turning but the hamster is definitely dead.

General Scroll Saw Talk / I was cutting away....
« on: September 30, 2010, 08:44:25 pm »
for about 3 hours this afternoon.
Stopped to move to another blade hole, set the tension and stepped on the switch....NOTHING!
Checked the plug - OK. Checked the foot switch - OK.
Then I checked the FUSE - BLOWN!
Was not putting any strain on the saw, cruising along and letting the blade do its thing.
So I am now dead in the water until I go pick up a pack of 3AG fuses.
Bummer...only had two cuts to go to finish the project! Double Bummer!
Will pick up a box of fuses in the a.m. and have spares on hand!

Just a warning to everyone with a DW 788...get yourself some spare fuses before it happens to you.

Idiot Number Six

A pair of Michigan robbers entered a record shop nervously waving revolvers.
The first one shouted, ?Nobody move!?

When his partner moved, the startled first bandit shot him.

General Scroll Saw Talk / A Message for "Newbies"!
« on: September 30, 2010, 11:15:10 am »

I would like to say this to any 'newbie' who happens to read this thread....

IF Steve had started this forum two years ago I personally would be much further along in my pursuit of this hobby.

When first starting out a beginner has only his or her own perception of what success they are achieving. With the introduction of this Forum and the wealth of information it presents you will certainly become more familiar with your saw and especially your 'capabilities' much more quickly.

BUT, more importantly, being able to show your work and receive the encouragement of some of the 'best in the business' is invaluable! Sure it is nice to show your creations to your family and friends and receive their compliments. What else would they say?

It is so much more a boost to your confidence to have so many others who have been at it for years and are considered 'experts' to say nice things about your projects.

So 'newbie' get active, read the tips, tricks, discussions and advice. SHOW your projects and ask for help when you feel the need.

We all say it, and we all MEAN it ... this is your Scroll Family and and we are here for each other!

The Coffee Shop / Idiot of the Day #5
« on: September 29, 2010, 09:59:22 am »
 Idiot Number Five....

A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the cash from the cash drawer.

After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of Scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf.  He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but the cashier refused and said, ?Because I don't believe you are over 21.?

The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because she didn't believe him.

At this point, the robber took his driver's license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk.
The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and she put the Scotch in the bag.

The robber then ran from the store with his loot.

The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that she got off the license.

They arrested the robber two hours later.

The Coffee Shop / My VISITOR ! ! !
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:49:14 pm »
On Monday afternoon the sun was shining in my humble garage/shop and suddensly the light became even brighter as yyyyguy strolled in for a visit!

All the way from the Wisconsin wilds Pete came to visit me. Well actually he was visiting his daughter and she only lives a short distance from my place so we communicated and he took time from his family to come for a visit.

We sat on my stools, talked shop and life in general, hoisted a brew and had a good ol' time.

We see photos of members but there is nothing like a face to face meeting to cement the bond between fellow hobbyists!

I hope you all have the experience at some time.

The Coffee Shop / Idiot of the Day...#4
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:07:00 pm »
Idiot No. 4....

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car.

He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car.

Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40.

Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture, this time of handcuffs.

He immediately mailed in his $40.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Just changed 'plywood' suppliers.....
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:51:07 pm »
I tried Sloan's Woodshop for plywood for the first time and just received my order.
Faxed my order at 4:00 p.m. last Thursday the 24th. It was invoiced and shipped the same day.
Received the wood this afternoon.

Inspection revealed that the plywood is perfect in every way.
No flaws and cut perfectly square.

Slightly higher in price than Ocooch but shipping was less and a lot quicker.

Sloan's is my new PLYWOOD supplier!!!
