This my version of useing the blow torch on a turning, the wood is macrocarpa and is 15"dia. and 5' depth, there was a number of hair line cracks in this bowl and I carved it with a proxon carver then got to work with the blow torch, I kept a spray bottle of water as it kept catching fire, a good exercise.

This is my shop clock, my sis gave me the saw with the painting of a king fisher on it after I had had it for about 6 months I decided to make a clock for my work shop and this the result

Hi Mark more info on vase making, the photos are probably out of sequence but you should be able to follow
there is one of my lathe showing the 4 jaw chuck to hold the wood on the lathe, next is the peice of wood I started with [a tree I cut out of my back yard] next is the hollowing tools, these are woodcut and made in NZ, the best in my opinion is the Rolly Munroe also made in NZ, these tool are for hollowing out the centre of the vase other tools are used for the out side, the next is the vase hollowed out abd ready for sanding and embelishment.
It is rather scary putting the log on the lathe at first, everything has to be tight and that has to be checked all the the time as if you do not you wear it.
One other thing the hollowing tools are expensive, one of those with handle is around $200nz

From NZ, it is 7pm and 8c dropping to low of zero later on, I have a few letters to get away and there is not a lot hapening on the site so all of you have a good day tommorrow and will see you all soon

Yes we finally got sun today and it was great it was pouring into the work shop and I got all my animal families painted and dry so will be have a big sort up next week to see what I need for the shows starting in Sept.

Here another of my bowls, it is matai a native of NZ and is a hard dense wood, it is a golden color and with age turns dark brown, the blank started out 16" in dia. and 5" thick but I found dry rot in it when I started tyrning it and the finished size is 12" dia. 3 1/2 thick it has been carved them stippled and ebonised the finish is dainish oil

This a hollow form with lid that I turned last year and I sold it to a student from the USA, it is elm burr and the lid is jarrah I hope you enjoy

It seems that a few members wish to  post in there own language, unfortunatly I am not bilingual and if they do this could they please translate into english as well as it is frustrating not to be able to read coments made by them, I hope I am not being rude or biased in this matter

Rimu had a post last week about having cold hands from the metal saw bench, I bought these gloves last week [98cent] and they are exelent, they are cotton with rubber dots on the palms and fingers
