General Scroll Saw Talk / Pocket hole joinery
« on: April 17, 2011, 07:29:57 pm »
I have a regular customer who is a Tole painting Teacher at a local senior center. She asked me to cut some decorative door toper pieces. The problem is they are 32 Inches long, which will be very difficult to cut on my 20? DeWalt scroll saw. Not impossible, but difficult. I was thinking of cutting them in two pieces to make them easier to cut. My question is would it appropriate to use pocket holes and screws in this application, or would it be better to use dowels or biscuits?
The joint will be right down the middle, end grain to end grain.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Storing Blades
« on: April 09, 2011, 05:32:43 pm »
I keep my blades stored in plastic tubes with tight fitting lids. Each tube is labeled with the type of blade inside. I keep the tubes organized in a wooden holder. You can make it out of a piece of 2x4 or any hardwood. Mine is made from Mahogany.
I get my tubes from www.sloanswoodshop.com.

Decided to get away from some of the Foo-Foo stuff I have been doing lately. I stacked two 1/4" boards, one cherry and one walnut. Applied two patterns on the stacked boards and cut away. Used Flying Dutchman UR3 blades. The handles are two layers of 1/4" maple and 1/4 cherry and walnut dowels.
Finished with boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits mix, and top coat with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.
Pattern by Steve Good!
