« on: July 23, 2010, 09:32:09 pm »
This jarrah fence post was given to me some time ago, I have now cut into strips and glued it together to make useable boards for the saw the large boards are 16"x8"x3/8" and the smaller ones are12"x4 1/2x 3/8" they should look good when cut and oiled it is a very close grain and hard wood but is exellent to work with apart from the red dust

General Scroll Saw Talk / On Oiling
« on: July 22, 2010, 11:10:35 pm »
I just used the dip method for aplying the oil to a of jigsaws and it was a lot quicker and a better coverage, will use a lot more oil but the finish will be more even, I may try it with a bit more thinners

Here is a bowlI made for my daughter when she married last year, it was for thier wedding rings on the day, she married under the large wallnut tree in the front of thier house.
The bowl is of native NZ wood and it is lined with gold leaf and I put thier names around the edge.
I hope you all enjoy

I liked cutting this project and I think it turned out OK, it is in mahogony and is 10" high and 3/4 " thick, the flash on the camera makes it look a lot lighte than it is

General Scroll Saw Talk / spiral blade
« on: July 16, 2010, 03:23:42 am »
I have heard you guys debating spiral blades and today I wished I had some to try, my first attempt at a cross with a lot of interecate cuts and it took me fore-ever going back and forewards to get good clean cuts and I can see that a spiral would have been the ansewer

Is for a cuppa tea, just finished my tea before settling down to watch some crap on TV then it is off to bed for dreams on how I can do my sawing better OR perhaps make a better job of finishing, these are only dreams, as I used to have when I was all out on the lathe, and I tell you it does work, live, breath and enjoy your hobby
