Toy Makers / Take Tombo
« on: April 27, 2011, 12:59:50 pm »
This is my version of the Take Tombo. Made from Saplee and Mahogany,Baltic birch, some brass rod and dowels. The plan is by Rick Faust found over at the SSW forum. http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/off-topic/32340.htm. I built it for our woodworkers club challenge for something made of wood that can fly. In tests, the Baltic birch propeller flew about thirty feet into the air!
Oh, one more thing, I did turn the handle!

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Baltic birch tip
« on: April 20, 2011, 01:33:16 pm »
Just a tip on using Baltic birch plywood. All the BB available comes rough sanded. I sand it to 220 grit before I cut it on the scroll saw. I use a random orbital sander but any type of sander will work.
By sanding before you cut there is less chance of damaging your project after it is cut. After your project is cut and the pattern removed, clean off the fuzzies with a piece of 220 grit sandpaper and your ready for your finish.
