The Coffee Shop / snappy comeback
« on: November 13, 2012, 12:37:08 pm »
At our show, people who are admiring our work usually comment on the amount of patience it takes.
When a good friend of ours came along and made the usual patience remark,
My son (better known as SMART A**), replied, "Yes, yes it does and we use up all the patience we have creating these things so we could *SNAP* at any moment, but a sale usually calms us down"  ;D

My son and I just finished our last show for the year.  We had great sales and a great time.  I think the best part if the people watching.  Obviously a lot of those people don't have functioning mirrors in their house  ;D.  But as long as they spend some money with us, we smile, nod and say Thank You.

General Scroll Saw Talk / sandpaper question
« on: October 02, 2012, 07:46:31 pm »
I have bought sanding mops in the past from RJR ....Grit 180
Decided to make my own and ordered the rolls as advised on here from Klingspore ....180 grit.
they seem much more coarse.  I thought sandpaper grits were universal??
I can't return them as I started cutting a few 6 inch pieces off one roll before I realized it.

Any Advice????

« on: September 28, 2012, 10:48:58 am »
I am looking to a very fancy clock type thing to put in a humidifier checker (you know that  thing that checks the humidity ???). I have a round one of those things like a clock. It needs to stick out from the wall and be very open in order to read properly.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Sanding Mop Template
« on: September 15, 2012, 10:43:16 am »
Does anyone have the template to make my own sand mop. How do you cut the hole?
I sure go through them fast.
Is it possible to sand them too smooth so they are almost polished
and the stain won't take as well?
Thanks for any input.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Saga of the Saws
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:27:59 am »
When I started scrolling several years ago I got a DeWalt and loved it but after hearing all the wonderful things about the Excaliuber, I sold the DeWalt and bought the Excaliber from Acme Electric. I got it home all excited and hated it for several reasons.  I took it back to Acme and they were wonderful!  I traded for the Delta 40-690. It was great and I used it for 11 months until it gave me the problems  I discussed here.  I took it in to Acme to get fixed. ( ;) On a side note here, the repair guy said it would be at least 3 weeks before he could look at it.  I called a few days later and said there was  a bottle of Crown in it if he could get at it sooner. He called 2 days later to say it was ready  ;D )  He wanted me to bring my blades and wood I use to be sure.....It wasn't  :-\ It was doing the exact same as when I brought it in.  Acme was wonderful.  Since they didn't have a new delta they gave me my choice of options,  Send it in to the factory where they would either repair or replace,  Trade for a DeWalt for the difference in price ($522 plus $36.54 tax no stand or light) or total refund ($483.00) I took the refund, came home and ordered the DeWalt from CPO for $474 stand and light included and no tax. It will be here Tuesday. So I should be back in business and seeing Yellow again  :D

I suppose it is too late to say "Long story short" Huh?

The Coffee Shop / scroll saw withdrawal
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:25:12 pm »
Well the problem I wrote about the saw marks showing  a while ago (July 21) came back with a vengence.  I have tried every thing.  So I finally gave up and made the 100 mile one way drive to Fargo.  The Repair guy says he is 3 weeks backed up so I will be looking for more patterns to create, sanding and staining what is ready, and maybe HEAVEN FORBID cleaning house.  They told me they can't even get the Delta 40-695 anymore.

General Scroll Saw Talk / HELP!!! please
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:03:30 am »
I have been scroll sawing for a long time.  And I use spiral blades.  Everything was fine until this last week. No matter what I cut or the blades I use there are small ridges on the cut edge.  I have tried Mikes blades and two other kinds.  I am still getting the ridges.
this pieces is 3/8 Baltic Birch stacked x 2.  I am also getting it on the 3/4 Maple.
This is my delta which up 'til now has been Great.  Please help if you can I am running out of ideas.
Hope you can see what I mean in the Picture.

Wing span at the widest point 4 - 7/8ths inches.
Cut from 1/8 inch baltic birch. Finished with Minwax stain.
I have no idea where the pattern came from.  I think it is something I tweaked.
