 Dog's New Year's Resolutions

1. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
2. The garbage collector is NOT stealing our stuff.
3. I do not need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm lying under the coffee table.
4. I will not roll my toys behind the fridge.
5. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur BEFORE entering the house.
6. I will not eat the cats' food... before OR after they eat it.
7. I will stop trying to find the few remaining pieces of clean carpet
in the house when I am about to throw up.
8. I will not throw up in the car.
9. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc.
10. I will not lick my human's face after eating animal poop.
11. "Kitty box crunchies" are not food.
12. I will not eat any more socks and then redeposit them in the backyard after processing.
13. The diaper pail is not a cookie jar.
14. I will not wake Mommy up by sticking my cold, wet nose up her bottom end.
15. I will not chew my human's toothbrush and not tell them.
16. I will not chew crayons or pens, especially not the red ones, or my people will think I am hemorrhaging.
17. When in the car, I will not insist on having the window rolled down when it's raining outside.
18. We do not have a doorbell.
19. I will not bark each time I hear one on TV.
20. I will not steal my Mom's underwear and dance all over the back yard with it.
21. The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are Mom & Dad's laps.
22. My head does not belong in the refrigerator.
23. I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and car registration.

Computer questions / "All that's CHROME is NOT Shiny!"
« on: January 06, 2011, 07:23:57 pm »
I subscribe to a great newsletter called ..."Neat Net Trick"...<http://www.NeatNetTricks.coms> Conceived and hosted by Jack Teems.

Here in its complete form is a REVIEW of Google's CHROME browser by Mark Snyder.

I read it, went back to my desktop and started opening Firefox again and I personally feel that the article is 'right on'!
Firefox opens faster, runs faster and allows me to have more open at the same time without slowing down.
Read the review and make your own comparisons and decisions.

Mini-Review: All That's Chrome Is Not Shiny

By Mark Snyder

You have all heard by now of the greatness of the new Google Chrome browser. According to all of the experts and every computer geek worth their badge of geekdom, the Chrome browser is the end all, be all of the browser. There can be no more wanting. In fact, the browser wars are over and Chrome is victorious.

Really? Am I missing something? Is there a version of Chrome that one can only download using a special code sent from another galaxy far, far, away? I ask because, in my constant search for the perfect browser, I downloaded and installed Chrome-in fact, I used it through several of its updates which come almost hourly it seems-and found my Chrome to be more like an old 71 Buick sitting in the junk yard: a good reputation, once full of potential and possibilities, but now rusty and worthless.

The most common praise you hear is that it is fast, and indeed it is fast; although, based on some comparisons as well as my own, not as fast in many instances as Opera. The second most common praise you hear is that it is. . . . fast. Oh, I already used that one? Well, there really is not a lot of other praise. There is, however, some criticism I can provide you.

First, it is a huge resource hog. I mean oink, oink, huge! In order to insure that when one open tab crashes the entire browser does not crash (and this is one of its big selling points) Google assigns an entire Windows process to each open tab. That's right. Each open tab will have its own process running in Task Manger; each drawing its own bite out of your memory and your CPU time. In addition, there are three processes that run all of the time your browser is open whether you are using it or not and irregardless of any tabs. Are you with me here? Open three tabs and you have six processes running. And all of these running processes do not come at no cost to your computer's resources. Each tab consumed between 18MB to 22MB of Ram and the three main Google browser processes another 112MB of Ram. So if you happen to have three tabs open you will be using 178MB of RAM memory. I ran an entire computer with Windows 95 on less memory than that just a few years ago. If this is not enough to make even your old copy of IE6 look welcome, Chrome sets off all kinds of security alerts as it needs access to your keyboard(?), SVCHost, the Windows DNS/RPC Client Services, and installs a global hook into your system using a dwmapi .dll. It also needs to constantly modify protected registry keys. In fact, between the firewall and WinPatrol it activated 30 alerts needing permission to access services, install hidden files, and so on. That is scary!

But like everyone says, it is fast! I just can't afford the "price."

In answer to several requests, Steve [Great Guy] Good has placed within this Forum a section for Computer Questions.

If you have a computer related problem I would suggest you review my initial post and then POST your question.

Thank You Mr. Good!

Computer questions / Steve has done it again!!!
« on: January 04, 2011, 01:27:41 am »
Steve in his graciousness has placed this section on the Forum as a direct result of OUR Requests!!!

For this we THANK Steve once again for being the gracious host that he is!

IF you have a COMPUTER related question THIS is where it belongs, not in General Scroll Saw Talk or The Coffee Shop.

I know a number of our members are 'computer geeks' and they will be the ones answering your questions and 'attempting' to solve your problems.
There are NO Guarantees that their answers are totally correct nor is there any responsibility nor liability to be inferred by Steve Good for their answers or any damage that may occur from following suggestions made by the posters.

They, according to their knowledge, will try to give you the information required to 'solve your problem'. If it works...say Thank You and put $50 back in your pocket!

If it doesn't, well they tried.

These machines of ours are very intricate and complicated pieces of electro-technology. Couple this with the endless variety of software and configurations and it makes solving 'computer problems' by remote a difficult and HAZARDOUS exercise.

When you have a question....
A. Describe the problem as fully as possible.
B. Tell us exactly what you were doing when the problem occurred!
C. Describe your computer, operating system, peripherals and give as much information as possible since all the parts and software are INTER-RELATED.

Do Not Expect Miracles!
But we will try to help and make suggestions!
