The Coffee Shop / "A Fart".....for all the old ones here present!
« on: January 19, 2011, 02:22:32 pm »
A fart is a pleasant thing,
    It gives the belly ease,
It warms the bed in winter,
    And suffocates the fleas.

    A fart can be quiet,
    A fart can be loud,
    Some leave a powerful,
    Poisonous cloud

    A fart can be short,
Or a fart can be long,
    Some farts have been known
    To sound like a song......

    A fart can create
    A most curious medley,
    A fart can be harmless,
    Or silent, and deadly.

    A fart might not smell,
    While others are vile,
    A fart may pass quickly,
    Or linger a while......

    A fart can occur
    In a number of places,
    And leave everyone there,
With strange looks on their faces .
    From wide-open prairie,
    To small elevators,
A fart will find all of
    Us sooner or later.

    But farts are all bad,
    Is simply not true-
    We must never forget.......
    Sweet old farts like you!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Road Trip Report....
« on: January 18, 2011, 12:47:23 am »
Wood n Shop is an individual owned and operated supplier for wood working supplies and some tools that has been in business since 1983.
Owned and operated by a very nice gentleman, Bruce Denslow.
This is his Third location and is in a huge metal building on his 'farm' where he also breeds and raises 'exotic' cattle.

I was there for about 40 minutes and had the 'grand tour' of the whole place.
They can and do handle almost every hardwood you could want and almost all orders are cut to order from larger stock. They can supply virtually any size down to 1/8" thick.
Smaller orders are shipped USPS Flat Rate and the balance are sent UPS.

Very nice and very friendly and he told me he will be dropping in to our forum to see what we are all about.

His current project is to put together 'bargain boxes' of hardwoods much like some of you have purchased recently from Rockler. These will be advertised in his monthly 'newsletter' so if interested check out his website.
He does carry and ship BB in all the usual thicknesses. Standard cuts are 20 x 30, 20 x 60.
Wider pieces of hardwood are available as 'glue-ups' and he does a lot of this kind of material.

Also they are equipped to make 'laser cut' items in quantity and have a very large stock of letters, numerals and other 'applique' items...see online catalog.

For those of us here in the middle of the US it seems like an ideal spot to purchase hardwoods that are no longer going to be carried by Sloan's.

He DOES ship "Internationally"! Has customers in Australia!

Driving out there is not a saving even for me since the cost of gas would offset the savings in shipping but it sure is nice to have a place to go when you want to pick out something and enjoy a drive into the midwest farm country.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Road Trip!
« on: January 14, 2011, 02:50:23 pm »
Tomorrow I am making a trip to Eolia, MO to take a look at the wood store there.

I have bought a couple pieces of hardwood from them and was pleased.
(Hoping to get them to contact Steve and maybe work a deal for us!!!)

Since Sloan's is not handling hardwoods anymore I thought it would be nice to have a supplier here in the 'heartland'!

Report to follow! Will include pics if they will let me take them!!!

The Coffee Shop / What causes Arthritis?
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:36:58 am »
WHAT CAUSES ARTHRITIS?

A drunk man who smelled like beer sat down on a subway next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket.

He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, "Say Father, what causes arthritis?"
The priest replies, "My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, contempt for your fellow man, sleeping around with prostitutes and lack of a bath."

The drunk muttered in response, "Well, I'll be damned, " Then returned to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?"

The drunk answered, "I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does."

MORAL: Make sure you understand the question before offering the answer.

How is everyone doing?
Did the big snow and storms get you?
Are you digging out and staying warm?

Here in the Mid-West we got about 2.5 inches and extreme cold (for us) and they damn near shut down the Universe!
It is 10:30 a.m. and about 16? with predictions of this holding for several more days.
No way I can work in the shop/garage!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Blade Storage System....GrayBeard's
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:36:14 pm »
Here is a link to the tubes I used for my system.

http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/product/test-tubes

Notice the 'ring' around the top just under the cap.
This makes for a perfect 'resting place' for the tube to hang through the hole I have drilled in the plywood table I have on my 788.
I drilled two holes so I can keep the two blades I am currently using just to the right of my saw for easy quick access.
Not 'cheap' but darn sturdy! I have dropped them, kicked them and even stepped on them and they don't break.
The screw on tops are much more 'finger friendly' for me than those on the tubes from Sloan's and other suppliers.
These are actually real plastic soda bottle 'blanks' before they are heated and 'injection molded' into 2 liter soda bottles!

The Coffee Shop / Talking when DRUNK!
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:14:25 pm »

THINGS THAT ARE DIFFICULT TO SAY WHEN DRUNK:

           1. Innovative

           2. Preliminary

           3. Proliferation

           4. Cinnamon

THINGS THAT ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO SAY WHEN DRUNK:

           1. Specificity

           2. Anti-constitutionalistically

           3. Passive-aggressive disorder

           4. Transubstantiate

THINGS THAT ARE DOWNRIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHEN DRUNK:

           1. No thanks, I'm married.

           2. Nope, no more booze for me!

           3. Sorry, but you're not really my type.

           4. No thanks, I'm not hungry.

           5. I'm not interested in fighting you.

           6. Thank you, but I won't make any attempt to dance. I have no coordination and I'd hate to look like a fool!

          7. Oh no, I couldn't, I can't sing...

          8. I must be going home now as I have to work in the morning.
