The Coffee Shop / Growing Older?

Observations on Growing Older

~Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them...but your grandchildren are perfect!

~Going out is good..
Coming home is better!

~When people say you look "Great"... they add "for your age!"

~When you needed the discount, you paid full price.
Now you get discounts on everything... movies, hotels, flights, but you're too tired to use them.

~You forget names.... but it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!!

~The 5 pounds you wanted to lose is now 15 and you have a better chance of losing your keys than the 15 pounds.

~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially golf.

~Your spouse is counting on you to remember things you don't remember.

~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~Your spouse sleeps better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than he or she does in bed.  It's called their "pre-sleep".

~Remember when your mother said, "Wear clean underwear in case you GET in an accident"?
Now you bring clean underwear in case you HAVE an accident!

~You used to say, "I hope my kids GET married...
Now, "I hope they STAY married!"

~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..

~When GOOGLE, ipod, email, modem....
were unheard of, and a mouse was something that made you climb on a table

~You tend to use more 4 letter words ...
"what?"..."when?"... ???

~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~Your husband/wife has a night out with the guys or gals but is home by 9:00 P.M. Next week it will be 8:30 P.M.

~You read 100 pages into a book before you realize you've read it.

~Notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.
~Now that your spouse has retired ...
you'd give anything if he/she would find a job!

~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet ..
2 of which you will never wear.

~~~~But old is good in some things:
old songs,
old movies,
And best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
I've been looking through their catalog and have  some things marked.
Now asking if any of my cohorts here abouts have had any dealings with Wooden Teddy Bear and seeking your reviews.
Like the proverbial 'Pain Scale', how would you rate your experiences with them?
10 = Very GOOD
.
1 = Very BAD
Thanks for your input and your candor!
General Scroll Saw Talk / "Cross Posting"
« on: March 11, 2011, 06:28:00 pm »
I posted this in answer to a 'fun' question from 'dgman' and decided I would post it here also...
'dgman' asked how things were going in the 'home'....
Dan...
As long as I can SCROLL when the shop is warm and get conversations flowing when it is not then I am a happy SENIOR camper!
Some of the other locations I visit have been sending me emails wondering where I am and I tell them that this Forum is so much more 'enlightening and FUN!' that I hang out here the most!
I have even turned the administration of my recipe group over to someone else!
Also if I can bring a bit of humor or spark an intelligent conversation or share some tidbit of philosophy or wisdom I feel my purpose has been fulfilled.
I learned very long ago that the best laughs often come when laughing at oneself!
That is what I do and that is who I am!
Here in the Midwest USA we live with two major threats.
First we have the nickname "Tornado Alley".
Second we sit right on top of "New Madrid Fault" which spawned the horrendous earthquake that many years ago caused the mighty Mississippi to reverse its course and flow north and shifted its channel to the extent that our state had its easternmost boundary changed. The quake is said to have been strong enough to cause churchbells to ring as far away as Boston!
Throw into the above mix the constant threat of flooding from the Missouri and Mississippi rivers!
Now...do we huddle in our basements and go out only for essentials?
NO, we go about our daily lives just as everyone everywhere does and people everywhere live under some kind of 'threat'.
IF you live in constant Fear, you are not TRULY LIVING!
There are those much more 'religious' than I who often say, "God will not send you what He will not help you through".
Not a bad way of looking at things.
Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Gluing 'Backer' on projects...
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:48:56 pm »
3M "77" was originally formulated to glue 'headliners' in automobiles!
I have used it to glue fabrics, felt, paper, card stock, etc. for years and have never had a problem!
Always apply the spray to the object and then apply the fabric carefully to the object.
However, be sure you mask off any area you do not want to have glue on!
That damn stuff is STICKY!!!
The Coffee Shop / Three Contractors in D.C.-=-=-=-=
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:50:48 pm »
THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!
Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.
One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is fromMinnesota.
All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.
The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring,then works
some figures with a pencil. "Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900:$400 for materials,
$400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says,
"I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the
White House official and whispers, "$2,700."
The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys!
How did you come up with such a high figure?"
The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we
hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence."
"Done!" replies the government official.
And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan works.
