A few years back my wife had her knees replaced and then she later developed a life threatening infection. They removed the knee caps for six months so I was her nurse and bottle keeper.
It was just before Christmas and I decided to have the tree that I wanted. I had purchased the c.d. from Davids website so I started stacking and cutting. Within a week I had what I called my Natural Swedish Christmas tree. The snowflakes I just soaked in mineral oil. I drilled a hole in them and put fishing line to hang them. I put blue lights on it to represent the stars in the sky. The tree was a fresh cut balsam. My wife gave away half of the snowflakes as gifts later on. The greatest thing is that I put all the snowflakes or ornaments in one small box because I cut them out of 1/4 inch.
This is Daves snowflake website. He has quite a tradition and story to share as to why the site was created.
Their are many samples on the site to view.

Cutout enlarged ones and hang them from a tree outside; preferably in a backyard if your urban.
