Title: Newbie Asking Probably Stupid Question??
Post by: Toneman on February 03, 2012, 12:17:18 pm
I am just about to begin scrolling and have started down loading patterns for future projects. Here is my "stupid" question. For example, on the new "quitar player" pattern, are the facial features and the guitar shapes made from single cuts of the blade and if so, how do you drill holes so they will not show?

Hey Toneman, I just looked at that pattern, and it looks like all the "Veining" cuts should be accessed from an existing cut or an outside cut. However to do this if you don't have an existing cut you have to use a mini drill bit. I use numbered mini bits that require using a small drill chuck in a drill press. When doing veining cuts, drill the smallest hole at an intersection or at an end of the line. If the hole shows, widen the kerf a little to blend the hole out. I get my mini bits and mini chucks from www.sloanswoodshop.com.
BTW, the only stupid question is the question not asked!

You don't say where you are from but Sloan's don't ship outside of the USA.

I order drills from the Flying Dutchman as he figured out that it not all that difficult to ship north of the border.

He also sells by the 1/2 dozen.

If you are ordering you need to get a mini chuck too.
