Title: What blade?

I am trying to cut a piece of wood about an inch thick and it's pretty hard, (not sure what it is) could you recommend what blade to use?  I have tried #9 Skip Tooth which is working but at the rate we are going I should be finished this time next year.

Try a pgt #9 if you have them there.  They are more aggressive.

If it's jarrah you will need to change your blade often a #5 should be OK and keep your speed down as the blade will over heat, also make sure you have tape on the wood

Marg,
The FD-UR # 9 should do it. Have very good tension, good speed and low feed rate. Use package tape on top of pattern to help with eliminating burnig.
If you have low speed you might pushing too hard into the blade and the blade will grab the wood instead of cutting it. Email me at mike@mikesworkshop.com

Mike beat me to it. If I'm cutting anything in the 1" I always use a FD UR #9. Works great for me..

OK thanks I have those and I have put the packing tape on both top and bottom.  Off out there on to have another go.

Its working great but did not have time to finish today won't get another chance until Monday but thats ok.  Thanks guys for your help.

I cut mostly 1" thick material or thicker in softwoods and hard.  I find that FD Polar #7 work best for me.  #5's also work well but I  find the #9 cut quite slowly as do the heavy duty industrial blades and  they last no longer.
