Looks like Delta is retiring the 40-690 saw, which is probably the reason for the sale prices right now. The new saw will be the 40-695, but I haven't seen a price for it as yet. You can check it out at: http://www.deltamachinery.com/products/scroll-saws/item/40-695?category_id=48
It does have an arm that locks up when raised. That's one improvement.

My Delta P-20 has the lock when raised but it was disconnected by me. Just like the Hold down. :)

The machine has a 5 year warrant so I doubt if they are taking it off the market

I just checked at woodcraft and the 40-690 is selling for $619.00.

I just ordered a new Delta Saw from Amazon.com. It was priced at 465.00 with stand and light. Looked like the best deal going for a newbie

My local woodcraft store had 10 Delta's reg priced at 619.00 on spec sale for 349.00! (put one on layaway immediately) I just sold my trusty 788 to pay for it! Whew! I hope I did the right thing! Well, since they are essentially the same saw I prob did ok but I'll miss Ole Yella...

Woodcraft bought out the rest of the stock from Delta because the new owner of Delta is making changes. They will sale for $349.00 until they are gone. 8)

The Delta at Woodcraft is practically identical to the Dewalt 788. At $349.00, it is a great buy for those in the market for a new saw.

I bought the Delta 40-690 on Cyber Monday for $350 which included shipping. I had never used anything but the Delta 40-540 that was given to me and I have to say the upgrade has really made a difference in my cutting. Love everything about the new saw and am so glad I was blessed to be able to buy it. Marion
