So I am out back going to my shop when I look up and see this beautiful Hawk perched in a tree. I stood and watched him thinking he would see me and fly away but he didn't. So I went back in the house to get the camera and started taking a few pictures. Hard to hold the camera still aiming up so only a few weren't blurry. Well much to my amazement what happened next. This squirrel came out to challenge the Hawk three times his size. He made some noises bowed up and finally chased the Hawk away. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't believe it, plus I got pictures to prove it. Enjoy.!

Excellent shot Russ.
This would make a great poster... Maybe a caption contest here...
Here's mine:
"Move along buddy, this limb is not big enough for the both of us!"

That's awesome Russ. I have seen something similar... those fuzzy little guys are pretty darn brave!

Obviously the hawk wasn't hungry. ;D

That is what I was thinking Rog. When the squirrel first appeared the Hawk turned his head and was watching him. I thought for a second, boy this is going to get ugly. ;)

That reminds me of a photo I saw of an eagle sitting on a porch rail and a white cat down below, with another white cat sitting off to the side advising caution. The squirrel made a mistake. Now the hawk knows where he lives and "HE WILL BE BACK".

I tried to look the hawk up in my Stokes bird book.
Looks like it could be either a juvenile Sharp Shinned or Cooper's Hawk, both are quite similar.
I think the squirrel was in little danger since he was in his element where as the hawk wasn't. Now put that squirrel out in the open with the hawk in the air, and the result could be much different!
Smart hawk knew when to retreat.
