On the Blog Steve talks about securing 'Split Rings' and 'keychains'.

I have found that another good source of these kinds of items are the "BEADING" stores that are around virtually everywhere. There are two within 5 miles of my home that carry extensive lines of what are called "Jewerly Findings" which include such things as split rings, beaded chains and connectors, 'jump rings' etc.
I have also seen them in the 'craft' sections of some of the Discount stores.

For keychains I tend to go to the hardware store and use the larger beaded chain that used to be called 'bathtub chain' that used to be used to hold the old fashioned stoppers in bathtubs and sinks before everything went to the 'popup' variety! This chain can be bought in bulk and is larger and stronger for more rugged use.

Even Wal-Mart has lots of jewelry supplies and key chain rings.  You may want to try there. :)
