Does anyone sell your projects in a gallery (gift shop)? I was in a gallery here in Peru and noticed they had a sign saying "Local Artist". I talked to the owner and told him I have a wood shop and do Scroll Saw work. He said for me to bring in some of my work. I told him I would.
I have only been learning the Scroll Saw this year. I went to the farmers market this year and sold a few things, but to go into a gallery is kinda something else. I guess I will see what happens...

I tried to 'exhibit' some of my things in a local art show...
They told me NO! It must be from a pattern I created myself and then cut!
Took some to a "gallery" and they were very gracious but told me they were more CRAFT than ART!
Damned Snobs!

I'm with GB. I had the same thing happen on my first attempt. They told me that it was obviously from a purchased pattern, even though the items were of my design. Eventually I found a local gallery whom were very nice people that displayed and sold many of my items. But I found the demand of constant production was zapping the fun out of my hobby. So now I stick to shows so things are on my terms...

You can but try, I have sold stuff in the museum of art at home here [wood turning] and also some of the earlier box.s I used to make, but they took 25% of the sales so you have to ask what is their commission then add it on to your price.
I have also sold stuff [wood turning again ]through an art society and have done well their commission was 10% plus an entry fee, that was minimal a few $$

Thanks for the feed back. This place is a nice place, and friendly. The deal is 30%, which is about normal, and really doesn't bother me. The guy isn't demanding. I can bring in anything in I want. If I don't bring in anything that's OK too. There isn't really any Scroll Saw projects in the store. I am going to try it out and see what happens.

I sell through a gallery and they also take 30%. However, their prices are far above what I sell the pieces for individually so I still make more money. I also sell in a christian book store. Again, my crosses go for more there than at a craft show so the commission they keep still nets me more money. You just have to find the right gallery. In Texas, I have no problem selling other peoples patterns that I have cut. I do a lot of southwest, indians and wildlife.
