Delta is getting out of the scrollsaw business. So they are selling their saws at close out prices. The delta saw is almost the exact same saw as the Dewalt 788. The only real difference is the Delta's are blue.
My local Woodcraft has the Delta saw for $349.99, it comes with the stand and a light.
Dewalt bought Delta or the other way around. Either way, it is a good deal if you are in the market for a good mid-priced saw. I have the Dewalt and have been very pleased with it.

What is going to happen if you need service on it, Barry?

Barry,
I think you have that backwards. DeWalt (the yellow one) is the one that won't be available any longer. The blue/grey one is the Delta that replaces it and they are exactly the same saw. All of the parts are interchangeable. In the future if you should have a problem with your DeWalt, you will still be able to get parts from Delta and vic versa.

Ok, I'm confused. Is the DeWalt 788 discontinued . . or the Delta? Does anyone know when this happened? I recently sent a letter to the York, PA DeWalt service center concerning my DeWalt 788 and received no reply. a thousand thank u's

Actually Dewalt and Delta are owned by Stanley Works and Black & Decker. Stanley Works has finally acquired Black & Decker and that was in 2009. Read this,

Thanks, Russ, I read the story, very interesting. So I wonder when the DeWalt will be discontinued. And, by the way, what's the difference between the Type 1 and the Type 1L? www.ereplacementparts.com has parts for both. I have a Type 1. Up to now I thought there were only Type 1 and Type 2.

My Delta is under warranty (100miles away) for all service work and all parts are exactly the same as the DeWalt 788. So Far I am happy with mine.

Update; after doing some research I ran across this article. They change ownership to fast to keep up with.

You are right Russ, you need a program to keep up with who owns what. :)
I wasn't recommending the Delta. Just giving a heads up to anyone looking for a scrollsaw.
All I said was I like my Dewalt and this saw seems to be the same machine. It is currently priced about 100 dollars below what I paid for my saw several years ago.
